Hey Folks, A fellow HAMBSTER in Nashville Tn. told me about a pre 49' show in Evansville In., The Frog Follies. I'm looking to make it up there this year. Wondering if anybody has been and where the best places to stay are. It looks like a cool show and would be a nice trip for me and the truck. Thanks, Steve
I've been every year since I can remember, really great show! I live right down the road from the fairgrounds. It's really affordable, I think $20 bucks gets you registered and a free T- shirt. It's $5 bucks for spectators to get in and cokes are $1. All the money made goes to kids charities. Usually around 4k cars of mixed varieties. Lots of street rods, lots of trucks, some traditional hot rods and a few rats. Really awesome swap meet. Not a purely traditional show by any means, but well worth the trip! Most of the hotels within 5 miles of the fair grounds along hwy 41 are solid. Hampton inN, holiday inn, holiday inn express. Etc. It's a big event for the city and the hotels all book solid so make your plans early.
Been every year since '82. Probably the last large pre '49 run left with a huge by large swap meet. We book our rooms for the next year when we get there. There are lots of motels in the area, but they fill up fast.
Frog Follies probably one of the best rod runs in the country. No rip offs there and a super swap meet. Because of its popularity its difficult to get a motel room like primed34 said. Best you start looking immediately. If you can't find anything, try Henderson, KY which is righty across the river from Evansville. When your in Evansville be sure to eat at the Hornets Nest Restaurant which is right near the rod run. You won't be sorry.
It's too late!! I took the bumpers off a couple of weeks ago and sold them to a member in Ky. Starting this weekend on an 8.8 w/4 link. I got a set of Halibrand knockoffs on the way. Plans this winter to chop the top, suicide the doors, Mercedes head lights and paint. I'm selling the parts I take off to help finance the face lift. So if any body needs a set of Artillery wheels or a complete TCI rear spring set up, let me know.
This will be there 40th anniversy. They are the best people you will ever meet.Lots of variety. You truck looks great as it is i think. The Halibrands would be nice though.Hope to see you there.
late 90's I think. I got a new set on ebay around $150.00. I've seen mini coopers done to, but I think they're larger.
Frog Follies is one of the best show in the area. It used to be $15.00 registration, it may have gone up. Pre-49 vehicles, no bikes or V.W.'s. You get a t-shirt, dash plaque, usually a collectors 1/64th car, or something else with registration. Friday night dance, Sat. evening dinner, and dance, Sunday morning coffee or juice and donuts. Sun. afternoon awards ceremony. The t-shirts are considered collectors items, I still have everyone of mine. They have a website, www.frogfollies.org. Enjoy.
If your looking for a room that weekend, start now and good luck. We stay at the Hampton Inn Airport, about 4 miles south of the show grounds. The Hampton is on Hi Way 41 Evansville. Good luck on your truck, and hope to see you there.
I don't know why that link would redirect to .com instead of .org, http://www.frogfollies.org/ Doesn't make much difference though I'm sure this thread will be deleted soon.
I was not going to say anything about your changes to the truck. Unless you really don't like the look of your truck, I would not change it!!! If it's the paint that makes you want to change it, change the paint, but I think it's cool with all the '40 stuff on it. I have a friend who done to his '40 sedan what you want to do to yours and after he got it done he didn't like it, had a hard time selling it and lost money just to get it gone. Just saying, it's your truck, hope to see you at the Follies.
You're right about rooms tough to find, I've checked most in town and they're full up! The Motel 6 on 41, south of the fairgrounds, still has rooms. Any of you local guys know if this motel is OK, and if it's OK to leave my truck out there overnight? I feel better when there is a bunch of rods in the parking lot, who would steal mine then? I used to stay at the Quality Inn next door to Applebees, it's sold out too!
The worst motel I ever stayed at going to a car event was the Blue Sky Inn in Evansville years ago. Hopefully its no longer there. The carpet needed an oil change, the power went out while we went to dinner. I'm thinking you payed by the hour.
Even though I do not own a hot rod, this is a show I always love going to.This will be my 5th year in a row going,I take a lot of pics of the rods there because I am a modeler, lots of inspiration for me.As stated above, for me the 5 bucks to get in is most definitely the cheapest I have ever paid to see a car show,Good-Guys should take note,Evansville street rodders are not there to rip you off and all money goes to good causes. Here are a few photos from last years show and the link to see the shows from years past. http://public.fotki.com/62704/frog-follies/
