I bought a mint 34 door off e-bay that the seller took to his local UPS Store to package. They charged me about $100 for the packaging plus the cost of the shipping. Their $100 packaging job was simply a cardboard box with no padding. By the time it reached me, it was far from mint condition anymore. UPS said I needed to file a claim with the UPS Store it shipped from because they are an independent company. The SOB's at the UPS Store wouldn't do anything about it...not even refund my boxing fee. I finally got ahold of a guy at the UPS headquarters who musta felt bad for me and got the UPS to at least refund the shipping costs. And yes, I had purchased insurance. Needless to say I NEVER use the UPS Store or UPS if I can help it.

I shipped a 56 Cadillac bumper and grille (large and heavy) to NY from Texas. UPS quoted me an outrageous number so I used Uship.com. I didn't use a fly-by-night guy but the local ROADWAY truck shipper offered me a great quote. I boxed it up myself and dropped it off at the shipping docks down the road. No problemo.

That hood made it from there to here - no problems. Not a cheap deal, but it beat the ride -with weather and all

Rick Hendricks talked Jeff Gordon into buying a black 1949 Oldsmobile convertible at this years Arizona Barrett Jackson action that had one of those hoods with the twin windows. I had never seen one before and that car was beautiful.

I personally don't like them (breaks up the lines of the car) but only a few years ago, maybe 5-6, I saw an NOS one still in the wood factory shipping crate at a flea market in Delaware. It was not cheap but considering the rarity it really wasn't that bad.

There was an old repair shop here in Minneaoplis that sold out a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, they sold a couple of those hoods on the auction. Maybe they were made somewhere in the MN/WI area?

Cool! My brother bought a magnacharger (new-school roots blower for an LS engine) from a guy who used the UPS store (or maybe it was fed ex?) to package it. When it got here the pulley mount for the cross-shaft was bent and the carbon fiber shaft was broken in half. Luckily insurance worked this time and the company cut him a nice fat check for all the damaged parts... after a few months.
