    How much lighter are the standard Ansen / Indy / Superior, etc slots vs the same sized steel rim?

    Steel is 2.8 times heavier than aluminum (based on the ratios from density).

    Do the math :)

    Some quick bathroom scale measurements;

    Early Ford 16 x 4.5" 17lb
    70's era 15 x 5" 19lb
    15 x 8.5" slot 15lb
    15 x 8" American Torq Thrust straight spoke 17lb

  4. Yes, but the aluminum will have to be thicker than the steel wheel

    Thanks, that's what I was looking for. My steel 15x8 rims are around 22-23 #'s

    Wow...high tech.

  7. Some semi-useful information.
    A rule of thumb: cast iron is 3x as heavy, but 2x as strong so the same part strength-wise the aluminum part will weigh 2/3 as much. Don't compare steel to cast aluminum, because their properties are so different. Compare steel to wrought aluminum.
