I have been reviewing the threads for the last couple of months and have got a lot of good information out of them. My wife's uncle started this 31 PU and lost interest in it, so I took it off his hands. It is pretty much rust free with a lot of work already started. The firewall has already been recessed and the frame boxed with a four link and mustang II front roughed in. The plans for the truck include leaving it un-chopped with full fenders and a 355 Wildcat/ST300 trans. I plan on doing all the work myself including paint. One question I have is regarding roof filler panels. When installing a panel from Waldens, is it sufficient to weld in a new panel and keep the interior wood bracing? Or should the wood be replaced with steel to keep the body from flexing? I have not decided on wether to go with a stock roof, or fill and paint it. My first order of business is finishing the frame and painting it. This is my first complete build, so I appreciate any advice!
this sounds corny,,, but too many people give in to (you should) because it's what everyone else is doin.. BE TRUE TO YOU.!!!!! I filled my roof to keep the cab warm, and the small heater in Fanny workz real well. sound like to me you got all under control to me. I've put a 700R4 Overdrive ****** in my 29, i got 373 gears in the rear end, so on the hyway at 70 mph the tach reads 2100 rpm, i do alot of hyway driving. 7 to 10 thousand a season. it's a Go car, not a show car. BYB, Back Yard Built, thatz Hot Roddin. Best of Luck with your Ride.
This weekend was fairly productive. I finished welding the frame yesterday and built a temporary sand blasting area. I was able to get the frame in epoxy, but still have to blast and epoxy the rear end, suspension, and subframe that goes under the bed.
After blasting all the suspension parts and bed subframe I Painted everything black. With the exception of forgetting I set a stapler on top of a ladder and then having it fall off and landing on the ghost flames of my dads 67 ford! besides that everything went well. **** happens I guess, took a few beers to get over it.
