And here is the shock in place.

Ok, I know the angle is a bit shallow, but that's what I did to save pushing the shock through the floor. It also means you can use a very short shock, as the travel at an angle is less than vertical. I think they'll be ok, if no good, it's only metal at the end of the day, anything can be reworked. Actually the angle looks shallower than it really is in this pic, due to the angle of the radius arm. The true angle can be seen in the previous pic.

That's it for now, feeling one or two steps closer now.

    Hi Mart,
Did the rear shocks turn out well or are they shallow to work out right ? I was following the topic and now it's my turn to fabricate shocks on my '32 chassis with as less as possible making extra holes on the chassis and welding on the chassis and rear axle. My wishbones are a mix of the original rear parts and the long 46 ones and attachted to the rear of the orginal K member.
So the shock attachements will be about the same as yours.
Great build that i'll keep following !

The shocks work ok. I can't say if another setup could be better, because I don't have anything to compare with. But I can say I have not noticed a problem with the back end over any type of road surface. I have noticed some conflict between the shock and the radius arm, there is a small dent in one of the shocks, probably a foul condition at full bump.

If I were doing it again, I would probably use something similar, but mount the top of the shock further back and higher up, as far as it can go and still clear the floor. I might slightly offset the lower mount further inboard to make more clearance with the radius arm. Not much though, as the less offset there is, the less bending there is transmitted into the radius arm.

I thought they came out ok considering it was all done from working underneath the car with it on stands.

That '33 is a great find. I only wish it had gone a few hundred miles north to my garage.:)
Judging from the damage to the engine and floorboards and really not much else, adding to that the "black book", I am guessing the little coupe got caught in one of the Kansas City area floods in 1959. Back then you could just go to a used car lot and pick up another to replace it. Might have to shop a little, but they were there.
You are doing a swell job.

  5. Excellent work, to a great driver. I especially like the top and suspension posts. Pretty crafty, and artsy. I'm a little late, but am hoping that thing makes you grin like I was reading it. Good for you man. Glad to have picked this up today. Great post !

All the pics from this thread disappeared in the great Photobucket debacle of '17.

I have used a workaround to make the photos appear. They are still on photobucket, so I can't say if they will disappear at any time. It's not under my control.

So if anyone wants to save any of the pics, grab them now while they are available.

I haven't worked all my way through yet, but will be doing so as I can.

Anyway, here are two pics taken a couple of days ago. I have painted the wheels black and turned the tyres blackwall out. I thought it was tume the old girl had a new look.Of course I got caught in a heavy shower during the road test!

Oh yeah, forgot to say - I how have an undropped axle and a reversed eye spring. I basically swapped the axles between this car and my roadster because I wanted a dropped axle on the roadster.

Oh yeah, I think the lens on my camera (phone) is damaged..

Damn these pic's make me so glad I ain't starting on mine again. Age just keep catching up on me. I have the desire but not the will any more. So many 33/34 on this site and all so damned good, with really talented great builders. If we aren't careful we will be like the 57 chev's, (which have had and still really dig btw) every real steel 33/34 ever made by Henry will be back on the road.
Looks like this thread has been around awhile but so busy getting mine out on the road after a22 year build left me no time for surf'n this site. So so so kool, Mart, I know only to well how you feel, keep the great work come'n on.
