I have a very rough 1941 desoto 3 window businessmans coupe, this thing is rough but I am going to try and save it. I need a hood badly and have only found 1941 plymouths for sale so far as parts cars. Does anyone know what major common parts are shared by desoto and dodge, plymouth, or chrysler?

I believe that the Dodge& Plymouth are interchangeable and Desoto& Chrysler are interchangeable. They might not be but it makes sense.

I have also been told that a DeSoto is only interchangeable with Chrysler. Plymouth and Dodge are slightly smaller cars.. I ran into that problem with my DeSoto

Chrysler, Desoto and Dodge are all larger.....Plymouth is on its own. Front sheet metal is different on all. Ex: If you use a Desoto grille, you have to use Desoto front fenders, hood, grille surround. Body tubs are the same. Doors-same. Rear fenders- same. (except some have chrome strip and the holes for the tail lights are different. Engines are different. Dodges are the smaller of these.

If you part this out, Im very interested in interior parts! Send me a PM...

So as far as a hood goes nothing fits except a desoto hood? I can cut, weld, and modify as needed, are the others physically wider or longer? Completely different? Mine is about broken in half so I have to see if it is worth trying to save or mod another hood.
I am not going to part it out, considered it but cant do it, because of heavy front crossmember rust I am going to put a straight axle under it and go g***er (yep jump on the bandwagon but I think they are cool) and maybe run no hood at all.

Dodge hoods are ****erfly style...Desotos are one piece... I dont know for sure about the Chryslers...I have a Chrysler upper grille surround and it seems it has a provision for the ****erfly hinge/rod. But I may be remembering wrong.

Front crossmember rot is a common problem it seems. I have 3 frames and all have rot in the front crossmembers. I think the 46-48 are similar, but that is something I havent had the opportunity to physically check out yet.

The Desoto hood is Desoto only. Plymouth and Dodge are shorter, and Chrysler is a 2 piece hood that splits in the middle.. I'm looking for a hood too and having a real tough time finding one...I have one that's buckled in the middle and am going to try to fix it... ISH.. Good luck

That's true about the engines, but not body parts, though Mopar would reverse the radiator to install the longer Chr/Desoto engines in export models of the Plymouth.
