Ok I've gotten some parts out of the New England snow and in the shop. I'm waiting on my body from NC so getting a start on the frame I found local. Clean up and work on the motor from an old Vette I had and try to identify what parts this frame is made from. If anyone can help I've searched the forum and haven't seen a exact match.

The axle I have narrowed down to a late 70"s camaro 3:42 posi.

The front the seller thought was early 70"s camaro clip. I have tried looking up the bearing numbers spindle numbers and so far no luck. Anyone have input would be nice to start rebuilding with correct parts while waiting on the body.

I'll post more pics as I get the pets together.

    Thanks

More than likely the front clip is from the same car as the rear. Late model camaro/nova clips are front steer (box located ahead of the X member) and early ones the steering box is behind the X member.

    Hope that helps.

I know the good thing is most years are same parts not too many variations. Should make it easier. The bearings I pulled out are bower and I can find a cross reference yet. I'm taking them to the local parts dealer see if I can match them up.

Take a good look at the upper a arms you will see a Gm number stamped in one of them and you can cross it over

Upper arm p*** side L29A9R only number. Searched for a good bit using search sites. Nothing. Only difference right now in front end parts are tie rod ends. 71-74. 75-81 something like that.

Bearings are the easiest part. If you have a number just go to a bearing supply or power transmission supply. They will have them and they are usually cheaper than an auto parts store....same with the seals. They don't even need to know the application.

Posting this if anyone else ever looks this up. So far emailed camaro central. Very helpful lots of great parts and restor parts. They think it's a 79 give or take a year.
Found this info Also ... 74 and earlier have the inner and outer tie rods different length. 75 and newer will have 4 equal length ends with the inner ones slight bend.
I'm narrowing it down will post and other clues so others may need it.

For future HAMBers reading this......There is a date code stamped into f-body sub frames. But in your case it looks like that part may have been cut off. It should be on the p***enger frame rail on top at the very back.

Looks just like mine which is a 74, but it was a while back whn I was doing the same thing as you are with research and what not. I bought a whole front end kit from PST, very reasonable and had everything in one kit...also dude I talked to was very knowledgeable on the phone for once...

Need some guidance. Someone did an axle swap on this frame but never finished it. Have the upper stock shock mounts but no lowers. Can't even seem to find a picture on how the oem lower mounts were. Looked online found plenty of axle conversion kits with the lower shock mount but noting showing installed pics can anyone post a pic of their 55 Chevy truck rear axle and the shock mounting methods. I want to get all my welding done before I start coating the frame. Thanks any help is appreciated.

I'm using springs and mounts from an s-10 blazer. Makes a neat swap AND you can use the blazer rear sway bar.

the partial VIN says it's a 1958 truck built in Kansas City. The partial VIN stamped on the frame does not include the part that tells if it's a V8 truck, or what model it is, since you can tell that by looking at the frame. A short bed would be 3A.

Rear end hardware was a bit different than most, the U bolts were bent square, and fit over the spring, with the curved plate under the axle for the nuts. Shocks mounted to a bracket under two of the nuts.

I can go take a picture if you need...

That is the VIN, (partial). Has the frame been changed? That looks like one for a 1958 Chevy truck, not a 1955.

Guy I bought the frame from said 55 frame and he had a lot of them around that we're exact same he restores 55 trucks. Maybe a 58 buy I sanded the frame carefully and didn't see anymore numbers or letters. And the frame is in great shape. I didn't think that the trucks had vin numbers in the frame anywhere. My earlier pics show the frame everything looks like a 55 from what I have compared it to I have not seen a 58 stock frame to see the differences. Anyone take a look if you have a 58 knowledge and can spot the differences.

The same number sequence was also stamped on the top of the frame near the steering box. That one got cut off of your frame. The 58-59 frames were longer at the front, and the brackets for mounting the radiator support are different than 55-57 frames.

Other than that, they're pretty much all the same.

Top of frame treated and painted. Flipped it over finding some spots that needed attention. Not to bad for a almost 50 year old frame. Thought I would throw a few pics on. Body coming up in 2 weeks from south. Frame por and ch***is black. Set of used control arms from camaro parts world cleaned up and installed. Lots of misc other parts ready to get ***embled. Nice now can start getting frame back to rolling. Guy from camaro parts world was a huge help. We determined that the front clip I have is 79. Gave him the numbers I could find and he matched them up in minutes. Didn't even find them on the internet to match up. Anyway the body will be here in a week I'll throw some pics up next weekend. Much better re***embling new parts for a little while at least.
