Hello everyone i'm James and new to the forum. I'm currently working on a 1964 Rambler Cl***ic 660 Cross Country Wagon. It's an auto with a 287 Gen 1 V8 white with a gold top and pretty solid. I'm in the Air Force finishing out my remaining 5 years in Idaho before I move back to Pennsylvania when I retire. 34 years old but have been around old cars all my life. My first car was a '69 AMC Amb***ador SST with a 343 back in '96. Looking forward to getting some good advice and helping others on the site. :D

Welcome from Long Island,my best friend back in 76 had a red 64 and I had a tunnel rammed 12 1/2 to 1 355 Chevy sitting around so we put it in for a laugh. He never had the money for a convertor so it was a little tough leaving, but once it got over 2500 it pulled pretty good.

Thanks for the welcomes! Oldwood- if you end up needing anything for your wagon there's 2 of them sitting in a salvage yard a mile away from me. Hotrodbuilderny- these wagons are surprisingly light for how big they are so i'm sure it did move pretty good. I actually just picked up another 287 yesterday and am tossing around the idea of putting a turbocharger on it. The Gen 1 Rambler V8 has forged internals from what i've read so I think i'd be able to do it for a decent amount of power. Plus it would be different and I like being different which would probably be why I like Rambler/AMC so much.

As you can see my 63 is just about the same as your 64 -- grille, hood, and taillights are different, but that's about it. I have a hopped up 4.0L with AW4 trans in mine, with a 86 Jag IRS in the back and 90s T-bird rack and pinion up front. The R&P was a LOT of work to install, better to put a Saginaw PS box in front (had that in before the R&P). Less work, just as good. You need any pointers let me know!

Tbucketmiller, I had 61-63 Americans for 20 years before I got my 63 Cl***ic in 1999. I still have a couple parts cars, may rat-rod one of them -- been thinking about it for years now, but haven't done anything (like so many project ideas!!). I'm REAL familiar with the 58-63 body and ch***is and what can be done with it. You can find a lot of posts by me on that body (and the 50-55 Nash Rambler -- same ch***is!) on here, or just send me a message! I only check the HAMB maybe once a month for Rambler posts, but get a notification of a PM or post to a thread I'm following.
