somewhere here on the hamb, I thought I saw a spotlight "bracket" application chart.. I tried the search with no success.. can you help?? apparently each bracket has a number stamped into the casting on the reverse and each bracket (part no) is designed for a specific application
if they are unity they are still selling them at chevsofthe40s.com .. that's where I got a set. maybe you can id them at thier website. I got a guide catalog from 1952 showing spotlights, but it has no mention of brackets. ??? so wait a minute. do you have brackets you don't know what they go to or do you have a car and you don't know what bracket it needs?
The Unity distributor here in Houston had a display of the various style lamps and a display of the various style brackets. When you bought a lamp you got the bracket and instructions for installation. It is amazing how odd applications for brackets can be, like "fits 58-64 VW Bus, Kombi, Westphalia, 49-50 Chevrolet Passenger cars, 55-59 Chrvolet Pickups, and 50-54 Chrysler product cars and trucks." I made this one up but that IS how weird the bracket apps can be.
I have a car which needs a bracket. because it would be BAD to weld up Anything on this: if it were any other car the weld would be cool by now.. this link was a big help: http://www.unityusa.com/application_search.asp
Chad S gave me this link http://accessoryloandparts.com I called the guy in Debuque IA and he had the correct brackets for my 47 chebby and the gaskets and the drill guide as well as the templates. BB
All the Ford brackets back to '35 are on that Unity site. They also have the original parts drawings for the older lights on there. The applications are indeed interesting... I think this stuff got preserved simply because they kept finding new applications!
joe that would be great I need a bracket for a 1940 ford station wagon (which is likely the same as 40 convert.)
Hi ! I think I got one of those "bracket position" charts from a NOS 112 painted spotlight , I know its for 1941 but it could include 1940 , I will check . Did you see Rik Hovings section of Appleton album of picture http://www.rikhovingkustoms.com/ , use this link and push a car and then got to his Fotki site where a section of all kind of Appletons are shown ? The chart have a little outlined templet that should be cut out and set in the driprail , I see that your cowl dont have a driprail so then it shold be set up against the doorjam . that same templet should have the bracket number , Ill get back !!! Well my bud Rikster pulled some pictures he took in 2006 that showed 1940 were not on my charts , only 1941 - 42 , bummer , unfortunully the only chart I got , still the installation instruction is fun to read thru where the proper drilling precediur are revealed ... Linky no worky. I'd love to find right and left brackets for '60-'63 Chevy and GMC trucks, if anyone has the number. Seems there were two, as well--one high on the A-pillar, one low that goes through the cowl area. -Brad
