RE: Stuck engine Thanks guys for all the suggestions on types of materials for freeing up the seized engine. I tried a number of them, soaking for as long as a week, all to no avail. So I first moved the front and rear pistons as gently as possible up and down with proper sized drivers and finally got them out. The top ring was movable, but the lower were stuck. The two center pistons were REALLY stuck and even with all the care possible, the pistons cracked in the skirt & boss areas, but they came out. Now the tuff part, the crank would STILL not turn, the valves were stuck in the guides, every valve, every guide. I bought a factory Ford style valve guide removal driver and was able to get three sets out without breaking, but the other five sets all broke. They are cast iron and brittle. Believe me everything was 63 years of stuck, 1950 to 2013 stuck ! But, all is well that ends well and the new pistons have arrived and the block is at the machine shop getting the valve seats re-surfaced , a necessity with the new guides. Again, thanks for all the suggestions on the penetrating fluids. ( I have a nice stock now ! ! ! ) circlek
I love woodies, and I have unstuck several engines, one thing you will need to do is loosen the main bearing cap bolts if you havent already, that should unstick the crank, but if the block is at the machine shop, i will assume u are going to let them do it,, great thread
Looks like the OP ain't been seen here since 2018 and it's been like 6 years since he posted about this but I still gotta ask, any progress?
