OK HAMB boys and girls, have you used this product? or know anyone that has?

I'd like some real feedback on the product, NOT on what you think about flat-paint jobs.

If you have any pictures to share, please do so.

Here's a link to what I'm referring to.

I have used their hot flat black.Very cool and easy to use.It is omni paint made by ppg.I think they just add a flatting agent in the paint. They have alot of colors to choose from.I use it instead of a primer top coat.

a little o/t, but that omni paint. I heard the reason ppg sold that stuff for so cheap was that it was made of basically "recycled" paint from things they did not sell. Heard that at work. Im a martin senour retailer though, so i dont have much experience with ppg.

    Glen,
I have a friend that used the black on his Merc, he had some issues with the sheen not matching after painting the clip a few days later than the body with material from an opened can. Granted there could have been other contributing factors but the difference was noticible. He was just going to retape and shoot the entire car at one go. It is a nice looking finish ..

Omni ****s. It's coverage ****s, it's colormatching ****S. If you want a good paint at a good price use Dupont's Nason line. I talk to people having issues with omni several times a year where I'm at......

I used Hot Rod Flatz and it worked great. perfect sheen sprayed great, with flattened colors you must shake or stir them very well.

    I'd use it again

I believe they sell it in pre-packaged gallons, and a gallon may not be enough i'd suggest buying 2 gallons.

I used it on my Model A and don't really like the durability. If you rub it the color comes right off. It doesn't have near enough hardener to be durable. If you add correct amount of hardner it gets more shiney. I am now using basecoat and PPG DCX2060 Flexed & Flat clear.

I dont know about the quality but if its made by ppg it cant be all bad. The price is not bad. If you went out and bought the paint and flattener separate it would probably cost a little more but you could maybe play with the ratio and the sheen you desired better.
.........Just SHAKE it well, flattener settles.

There are 2 forumulas they have made. They switched to a 2 part Urethane forumla, maybe 6 months ago. The price went up about $20-30 a gallon. One of the comments above said that it didnt include enough hardener to cure right, and the color rubbing off on your hand. That sounds like they were refering to a car painted with the old enamel formula.

I havnt used the product, but I do know for fact that they changed from an enamel paint, to a urethane, which the latter should be much more durable, and solve any issues.

For a little more money, you can find a U-tech paint dealer (Sikkens "economy" line, just like Omni is PPG's), pick a color from the very extensive paint chip book, know exactly the color you are getting, and get the exact color you fall in love with, and have your local jobber mix it to whatever percentage of "flat" you want. The U-tech single stage urethane happens to be a great product, and will run $90-150 a gallon depending on the color (as long as it isnt a bright red), plus about $40 for the hardener.

The Hot Rod Flatz color samples come in a color printer printout, NOT actual color chips, so short of seeing the color on someones car, you really have no idea exactly what color your getting untill you spray it.

My painter just did my 51 bullet nose Stude and he liked it. It is flat black and looks great. I don't have any good pictures yet, maybe next week.
