Looking for my dads 55 chevy g***er. Car maybe long gone but its worth a shot. Had In mid to late 1960'S Car was 55 chevy 2 door hardtop belair coral and shadow gray. Looked stock except front end being raised. Had steel wheels and no lettering or wild paint. Ran hilborn injected 301 3spd with model A straight axle split wishbones and engine was set back 10%. He raced in Kettersville,Ohio dragstrip, Waynetrail dragstrip Middlepoint/Vanwwert ,Ohio, and Avilla dragstrip in Indiana. Also was around with Harolds Automotive in Defiance,Ohio and Harts Automotive in Cecil,Ohio. Last known wereabouts of car was in michigan, he traded it for a wrecked 68 Camaro around 1969-1972 area. I have no pictures, no vin numbers or info on person he traded car to in michigan.I wish I did. So if anyone has any info or any pictures of these dragstrips in the 1960's with any 55 chevys that would be great. Thanks !!
Cool old video. Spotted a few 55's 1:07 3:17 3:53 4:06 6:00 (maybe 56, hard to tell) Good luck finding your dad's car.
You might give Bill Lininger in St. Mary's a call,he's got a lot of old Kettlersville pics. The guy that owns the old drag strip today is a pretty good guy,he might be able to help too.All I know is his name is Buck.Theres pics of my car setting on what's left of the old drag strip in my albums.Good luck!
FlatRocker , Im not sure if this is the same car or not . The ***le with this car says it was purchased in 1966 so it may not be , but the rest of the description is sure close , this car is here in central Illinois and has been for a lot of years , its a 2 door hardtop Belair , The original Coral and Grey paint is poking out from behind the most recent white paint job it had seen , At one point this car had a tranverse style leaf spring up front , Someone hinged the steel nose , engine mounts had been switched to the side and the firewall had a hammer taken to it in several places . Steering box had been notched into the frame as well but at some point someone added the stock suspension back to it . Clutch and brake pedal were cut up a little higher as well . Not sure if this is it or not. Ohh , at one point in this cars life , the roof was replaced " I don't know why " , the original roof color was green .
WOW,MAC 55, I almost cant believe what your telling me. I never said but my dad replaced the roof on his but he couldn't remember if it was green or white. Also original steel nose was modified to flip forward. Almost everything you describe is the same except firewall was cut for engine setback and it is a little unclear when it was sold. Any more information would be great !! Thanks !!
Does anyone know where " Foremost Speed & Custom " was out of , it might be a clue ? I cant find anything on them on the interwebs.
Well everyone after looking over the photos and talking to my Dad and messaging with Mac 55 we have determined this is not my Dads car. But it is still crazy how close this car is. Every car has a story and this one does too, just with someone else out there. A big THANK YOU goes out to MAC 55 . He thought enough to let me know about this car and wanted to see that I got it if it was my Dads . He spent a lot of time looking at the car and tracking information and I greatly appreciate it. So a handshake and a pat on the back , to a great guy !! Thanks a million !!
I just wish it would have worked out to be your Pops old Ride . Would have been so cool . Thanks for the compliment Buddy .
Flatrocks Dad swapped his 55 as a roller for a 1967 Camaro .around 1968, The ***le I received to this car said the owner got it in April of 1966 .. His dad had also cut and recessed the firewall , the Firewall on mine has been smacked with a hammer , not cut and recessed. there were several other points that Dave can probably explain better than myself .
Dads 55 had original crossmember cut out and replaced with tubing. Firewall and trans tunnel cut out for 10% engine set back and aluminum panels to cover engine inside. And as MAC said dad still had his car after 1966. Crazzy how color was same, roof changed and other mods the same. Might be someone else out there lookin for this one ??
