Met Billy at a book signing today in Toronto. The lineup was hours long! He is a pretty cool dude, down to earth. Showed him a pic of my '36 and got my booked signed. He had some good words about my ride. If I can figure out how to download photos from my camera phone I'd attach them.
Billy rules the world. So mellow and down to earth. It doesn't hurt that he owns the baddest car on the planet, either.
Billy Gibbons is a pretty cool guy. I've met and talked to him at several car events over the years. He also was Jimmi Hendrix's favorite guitarist.
Billy and the boys are most definitely cool guys. Just saw them in concert here in Rochester (well, actually, Canandaigua a Rochester suberb) and they were superb. Kinda wished Billy would have brought one of his rides but, all he had was the tour buses. Such a life! I guess he needed a place for his new wife to stay although she is from Rochester. What a mega-hottie. Old guy, young chic and good old rock and roll. It was a great night. Made even better by Junior Brown who was the opening act!
He was on Howard Stern a couple of days ago. Seems like a nice fella. I guess he has a new coffee table book out about cars and guitars....
Metalshapes, Kent and myself hung out with Billy at the show in Phoenix back stage for awhile and he was really happy to see us come all the way up there for the show. Durning the meet and great back stage he pulls us aside and gives us number to call in hour for drinks. We were all thinking yea right. Well we called like he asked and he invited us up the Builtmore in scottsdale for drinks and we were the till 4:00 am and then drove back. The nicest guy you will ever meet and is true gear head. All we did was bench race. Truely a stand up guy. If any of you get a chane to meet him do it. You will not forget it.
Was that Darien Lake or FLPAC? I saw them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse for the Recycler tour (with the Black Crowes as opening act) and it was a great show, though I didn't get to hang out backstage. I just picked up the aformentioned book, Billy F Gibbons: Rock+Roll Gearhead and, while I haven't gone through it in detail, it looks pretty cool. It's divided into three sections, The Man, The Cars and The Guitars. Besides cool shots of many of Billy's cars, there's a bunch of cool pix of him in former bands, as well as shots of the Top in their early years. And being a musician, the photos of his many guitars were AWESOME!
Unlike others,he took time to say hi and was real friendly. He's a true Hot-Rod guy and down to earth! I recognized alot of the places he took pictures at, which happened to be my side of town "WEST SIDE" I bought his book yesterday, bad a$$...
ok, here is the ****py pic taken a few hours ago.. Not sure who the guy is in the photo. Billy's handler was a bit of a knucklehead but I guess that's his job....
Wonder if he ever lurks on the HAMB. Saw him once at a car show, but didn't get to talk to him. The ZZ Top videos were one of the things that really got me into cars in the first place. The man has definitely got some nice cars.
Same here. i don't think I'd be the gear head I am today if it weren't for ZZ Top. I would love to meet these guys one day. I have been a huge fan for years. They were the first concert I ever went to. I've read where they have had several cars over the years besides the Eliminator, Cadzilla, and the Hogzilla's. Whatever happended to a 64 Impala called "El Dorado Bar"? Heard of it but never seen a picture of it. I read that Billy was known to drive behind the tour bus sometimes in a old 64 Dodge beater. Sometimes the tour bus or hotel rooms would have car parts he bought on a trip. THAT's what I call a true gearhead. I see everyone talking about Billy, but what about Dusty and Frank?
FLPAC, otherwise known to us locals as, simply Canandaigua. The venue they were performing at was torn down right after their performance. It is going to be rebuilt at about twice the size. Attract bigger acts, I guess.
I would REALLY be surpised if he's not a hamber. The net is one place he could hang with car guys and still be annonymous. If nothing else a lurker. He has some sweet rides...
