HELP...Valvetrain noise after engine is shutoff

They make oil deflectors for sbc's so you can run them without the valve covers on I would try that to see if you could identify the issue.

I wonder why my solid lifter Buick Straight 8 "ticks" after I shut it off?

the lifter bleed down theory is equivalent to other supers***ions and myths

believe whatever gives you comfort....right or wrong, it really doesn't matter in the overall scheme of things.

 

I got stuck on camel toe....plenty in the cars never under the hood....

It's the exhaust or the other gremlin suggestions it ain't the lifters!

 

I just did a Pontiac recently that did the same thing. It was through the valvetrain not the exhaust. Pulled the valve covers and you could feel and see when the clicking occurred. Found the rockers were too tight. Retorqued and the problem was gone. If you are going to grab the exhaust right after its been running your brain may not be ticking properly.

 

So this is pretty old thread but had to comment. Makes sense a lot of people would ***ume the ticking is heat related and not the valve train. However I have experienced this same valve train ticking after turning newly rebuilt engines by hand after pressurizing the oil system. No heat involved. So ford9inch you ain't crazy.
