Just retired this past fall, have a bunch of projects to build before I get too old. : ) Looking for input on my 32 w5 Ford coupe project. I plan on a traditional Hot Rod. Its all steel original Henry but the body is in several major pieces. Body is going to be a major rebuild from sub rails up. 8ba rebuilt flathead ready to go, pretty nice original henry frame, dropped I beam, banjo rear, front and rear buggy springs, juice brakes, 35 wires, etc. Here's the first question; The frame has the original cross members removed. The front has an A cross member tacked in, to lower it. The rear has the original cross member removed and a stock type fabricated again to lower the stance. The center K cross member was cut out and removed in pieces but I have most of it to possibly replace it. What thoughts out there on using the lowered spring cross members or do I put original cross members back in? ( I do have originals to reinstall) I kinda like a lower stance but also looking to do as original as possible.?? Second question is fenders or open wheels? I like both looks and have all four original fenders and running boards.?? Looking for ideas, thoughts, opinions, and coments? Thanks Ed
Pictures, please. Just in case you should need some body panels, wood, or some kind of thing for the body. United Pacific stuff is really nice.
First question, can you do most of the work yourself,do you have patience ? By all means fenders & boards if you have them!
Gotta figure out posting pics? also its still somewhat stored, spent this fall cleaning and reorganizing the shop. Setup the 32 frame next to some other projects already started. Plan to start the body rebuild this spring/summer.
I can and plan to do the work myself. As far as patience, I've been waiting a bunch of years to start this so once I get into it, I'm gonna have fun. I was always thinking fenders, but also like a fenderless highboy. Thanks
Hey, Eddie... I think fenders too, but when I built my '32 Five window I put it together body on frame, (nitro cellulose Fiesta red) I had a gallon of paint saved to do the fenders. Uhh...Fenders got sold, but they were planned originally. My '27 tub is on '32 rails, and I keep thinking about adding '29 Model A fenders... Build it as a highboy, the fenders bolt right on. (Wow, '32 Five window! I'm envious.)
I can't think of any reason why you can't build it with the Model A front cross member, the raised rear cross member and the stock K member. As for fenders, that is a personal choice,I like them both ways,I've had hi-boys and full fendered deuces. HRP
Do you think you have enough time left on earth to finish that retirement project?????? If youve managed to "SAVE" any $$$$$$$$ & are just giong to leave it to somebody why not enjoy it yourself & then if theres any left GIVE IT AWAY got a friend whos a CASH Millionaire & his brother is a BILLIONAIRE & my friends only HEIRS are his brothers kids & he wants a Gl*** 32 so bad he can taste but wont get off any money to buy it & the nephews are going to get it from him when he kicks I dont understand but then Im a BROKE Son Of Gun
OK thanks, I posted a pic years ago of my 33 Willys body but don't really remember how. I'll figure it out, and send some when the build starts. In the mean time I might get to email some to you for now. Thanks again. Currently looking for ideas on the frame and cross members. Lots of thinking and planning required before the actual build begins.
I'm not too worried about finishing one or two retirement projects, its the other 5 or 6 that worry me. I joking said I need to live to be 150 to finish em all. I'll be lucky to get a few done, but gonna have fun trying. BTW I'm not a millionare so building myself is the only option.
Personally I am offended by your callous rant!,,get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? What's wrong with a guy that is finally ready to build is dream, there are a lot of us in this age group,,including you! HRP
