I replaced the I6 in my 1959 Edsel Villager with a 460 and now the front end sits only 2-3" off the ground. I want to get the original ride height and quality back. I do not want stiff "performance" springs, just compensate for the extra weight.

I scoured the internet for new replacement springs but came up empty. So am I basically down to finding used / NOS springs from a V8 car?

Or I could get the length / diameter and try to find springs that match the ones I am looking for. Maybe I can find springs from a 60s/70s car that would fit the bill...?

Go to a napa/auto parts store and look at springs in the book for dimension something else usually will fit.

Hollander says 58-60 T-bird uses the same spring. Try a pair for a 430cid.

Some people pay a lot of money to get their car to sit 2-3" off the ground!

I requested a quote from coil spring specialties. On monday I'll also call some local companies (Austin) to see if there is one that can help

And when you search for an alternate spring, don't just limit yourself to autos. I remember someone using a Ford Aerostar minivan spring, but I just can't remember if it ended up being your year Ford(Edsel) or not.

  10. Moog 8000 is listed for 63 full size wagons with 352/390 and air....not sure how close to the edsel the 63 fords are in ch***is components..they replace a 1960 Ford part number

Coil spring specialties came back with a quote of $200

The Moog 8000 is only $50/pair. I think I'll go out there with a tape measure and see if they will fit.

I always shopped out of Moog catalogs and they had the best price. watch the ends though, match up exactly what you have on the Edsel.

Yea I did the steering on my '28 Dodge that way - hooked a saginaw power steering up to the solid axle :)

Looks like the Moog 8000 is for 1500 lbs/ea and the Moog 8002 is for 2300 lbs each. I think a trip to the scale is in order. I'll probably need the heavier spring if I want to actually be able to carry 6 people + cargo in the car.

I just bought front springs for a 58 Corsair 4 door with the E475 engine from my local Car quest store. My cost was just under $100. I gotta think the big 410 cu in Edsel engine would weigh about what your 460 does. ???? I do have an edsel interchange book and can look tomorrow to see if they are the same for a 58 and 59 but think they are.

Don't forget Edsel is just a Ford most of the Ford stuff other than sheet metal should be the same.
