Technical Hood hinge

Hi All,

How do you get the original hinge pin out of the two piece 1930's hoods?

On my 32 Chevy I tapped it out about an inch with a small punch and then grabbed it in the chuck of a variable speed drill and pulled and spun it right out.

 

I have soaked it and tried the punch but it's still not moving. The only direction I can push it is towards the front because of the curve of the hood.

You know sometimes I feel so dumb for asking for help before thinking stuff through. I just used a BIGGER hammer to get it going then I bent the rod up at the front, put the drill on it and out she came. BTW the drill idea was awesome. I wouldn't have thought of that.

OK, here's an update. I hope I can finally add some knowledge to this site. The pins came out of the practice hood pretty well after soaking. The pins DID NOT move on the good hood even after weeks of PB lube. BIGGER hammers are not always good. I mushroomed the end of the pin even though I was using a punch of the same size. So, instead of tearing up the whole hinge I cut the pin at the exposed area between the hood and main hinge. I used a SMALL die grinder with a very pointed CARBIDE rotary file and carefully cut the pin in 2 spots about an 1" apart. I was able to get a smaller punch in and pushed the mushroomed end of the pin back out enough to get vise grips on it and pull it out. I went to the next exposed area and made the same 2 cuts, then I used the hinge pin from the practice hood and punched the next 6" section out about an inch and cut it off. I was going to continue with the 1" sections but tried a screwdriver to bend the pin out enough to get past the next support and it worked. After that section was out I went to the next area and did the 2 cut deal and was able to get that 6" section to move, etc. etc. Anyway the pin came out in SIXTEEN pieces but it came out.
I'm not telling anyone to go this drastic because you have to be really careful about how you cut with the die grinder. I made sure I started the cut really wide so it wouldn't catch and f*** up the hood.
I'm done rambling now. I hope this helps someone.
