How could his oldest be so consumed with old cars? He grew up during the depression, and cars were vehicles that you wanted the newest and the most dependable. In his family, a boy played sports or fished and hunted. But, understand or not, he stood by me. We moved to Dallas from Northeastern Okla. At the age of twelve, I met two brothers whose older brother was in a car club "Lighting Rods" I was overwhelmed! Old Hot Rods! That was as good as it got. On my 14 birthday, Dad " I'll buy the first one."d I knew just the place. A local car lot had a back row with the old dogs that had been traded. My first car; 1936 Ford 5 window If we ever meet, I'll efill you in on condition and episodes. This has gone longer than intended; hopefully the Mod won't delete. My Dad passed thirty tears ago, and I miss him. Anyhow, I have erbeen lurking here too long and it was time to intr I am currently working on a Modified style T Bucket and a 1956 Ford F100 Pickup. Will get some pics later. Until then, it's good to be here. Thanks to all of you.
Welcome from another son who's Dad didn't get it.My Dad passed in 1996,but I don't miss him. We're different there I guess.
Wow! You were a long lurker. Don't wait so long to post again. I suppose a lot of our dad's didn't get it. Mine didn't even drive. But he never complained when me and my younger brother played with old cars. Not everyone gets it. Our first three kids still don't get it but our adopted grandson lives and breaths old cars just like I do. I'm glad everyone doesn't get it. There wouldn't be enough junk left for the rest of us who do get it.
MY WIFE! DON'T GET IT! so by the time the fruit jar savings gets around to obtaining parts theirs not much left. Good hunting, wish I could jest find one great barn find, then have the cash to get it.
Welcome !!! I had a Dad that never understood. There was No Support for my interest in Old Cars and at age 20 I was forced into selling my 39 Chevy Project. Dad simply did not want that POS in the yard any longer. I guess that BS made me even more determined. 47 years later the Old Car Syndrome is even stronger. Dad never did understand. Glad you signed in........... Jeff
Welcome!!! My dad passed away in 1988. He not only "got it" but drove the tow vehicle that pulled my 1st car home on the end of a logging chain. It was a 50 sedan with a blown motor. At 15 we dropped it a 53 Merc and haven't looked back!! I sure miss him and find he gets smarter every day... Thank you for reminding me of those memories.
