Had to walk way from a cheap Ford 8BA today. Went down to pick it up but our truck's leaf springs were too tired to bare the load and we ended up on the bumpstops once it was aboard. I was working to get a full-size truck down next weekend to get it but the guy said forget it and has decided to s**** the motor/trans instead. :(

The motor might of been junk and I didn't have any need for the damn thing, but I thought I might be able to get it going again, sell it or even-better, use it as the basis of an early-Ford project car.

Still rolling modern for the time being... That said, there is hope as the wife wants to part ways with her Turbo New Beetle soon and get something of the four-door variety and is open to an old ride if the price is right. She fancies the 60's Plymouth's but would give the nod to a Ford or GM wagon of the same vintage.

What kind of lame *** truck hits the bump stops for a 625 pound motor? I've brought them home in the trunk of a car.

What's wrong with springs against the bump stops? I have brought loads home that way, slowly.

Slide it all the way to the front of the box and it will distribute the load better.

Don't go slamming your pickups, guys, you might actually need to CARRY something someday.

Even ***uming trans and other **** you're at 900lb, it's hard to imagine...a dead-stock old Toyota Hilux or even an old Ranchero in decent shape could carry that.

Sitting on the bumpstops is bad but wouldn't be bad enough to keep me from driving it off the guy's property and down the road a bit if I think it's THAT kind of deal. Or U-Haul or the local Home Depot's delivery truck.

It is a Jeep Cherokee with 200k on the original suspension. I'm still waiting on a few more parts to arrive for a full overhaul the suspension (new springs with a higher rate in the rear, new bushing, ball joints, dampers and wheel bearings all around). I didn't expect to find anything worth toting so soon. It pulls a trailer with a car on it no problem but the weight over the axle was too much on the lame-*** (and old) factory springs. Trailer is presently unavailable or it would have been used. It was a two hour highway drive, otherwise I might of chanced it all in the hatch.

I imagine it was a lot of weight as it was a long block (from pan to carb) and included the transmission as well. I tried to work it out with the dude to come back with a proper truck but he was having none of it. *shrug*
