Customs Are there diamonds in my paint?

  1. Or maybe raindrops? Nope. The sun is reflecting off of some of the thousands of bubbles in the paint.

I bought this 61 off of an Alliance member here and learned a valuable lesson. Alliance membership does NOT guarantee that a members description will be accurate. The whole car must be sanded down to bare metal and done right.
The problem with that is;I HAD a nest egg and spent it on this car. I don't have $10K + to have it repainted.
Alliance membership does not protect us from deals like this. Pay someone to check out anything that you are buying.

Is this the same car that you were not happy with the wiring?

  3. Do you realize how much an alliance membership might cost if they had to hire brokers for every transaction?

  4. That's why I would never buy a car with out seeing it in person first. And alliance membership doesn't mean anything when it comes to trusting someone on condition of something. Charles Manson could get a membership, doesn't mean I would trust him.

I'm not trying to diminish that you might have gotten hosed.

But maybe you are making a bigger deal than needed?

Does it need to be painted in order to drive and enjoy it right now?

Some of the cars I get the most compliments on have ****ty paint jobs.

Use it and worry about the paint later....

Everything on the internet is Buyer Beware! I don't know the transaction details so I can't tell you right from wrong but. . .condition of a vehicle is often described in terms that I consider "relative". Given my shoestring budget, a car that I might consider "nice" or "clean" may not carry the same sentiments with everyone else. You could've saved yourself a lot of trouble by viewing the car in person or paying for an inspection.

I don't know any of the details of your purchase, but have you read this?

    Location: Austin, TX Price: 50.00
Hey fellas, we host a ton of cl***ified ads here on the HAMB. In fact, we average almost 300 new ads a day. And these ads are viewed by millions of people per month.

Of course, we offer this service absolutely free of charge.

That said, we do not police deals made between non-Alliance members. As much as I wish we could do that, we just don't have the time. And at the end of the day, there is not a whole lot we can do with offending members without their verified contact information.

However, we absolutely police deals made between Alliance members and in the 6 years of the program, we've never had a deal go by that wasn't fixed in one way or another.

    So, protect yourself:

    Buy From Alliance Members!

    Sell To Alliance Members!

    Become An Alliance Member!

Never mind. I just noticed that you are not an Alliance Member. Probably should have spent the $50.00.

It's a lot cheaper to visit a project or car in person and return home not purchasing it, than it is to buy it sight unseen and be unhappy.

And it's very easy to buy something and then whine about it online.

How old are you ? You might have learned by now that the ultimate decision to buy something or not buy it is controlled by you.

Making the right choice depends on you regardless on who you buy from.

10k is a lot more than a plane ticket and a car rental for a day. I know you are mad , but direct that anger where it should be. I highly doubt you were sold a $10k car and told it was absolutely perfect. I've had a lot of good times in cars that look way worse than that

I'm sorry you are disappointed in the car but jeez. You describe yourself as oldfart, yet you buy a 60 year old used car sight unseen and are surprised it isn't perfect?

I'm an old fart too, and if I was green enough to buy a car sight unseen I would be surprised if it still had 4 wheels and a motor.

  13. From his other thread complaining about the wiring:

"Yup,Thats the one...Thanks for letting me vent a little guys.I know its my own fault for believing the seller.
Realizing that its my own fault,I didn't mention that the front shocks are shot(one little push down and the car bounces 3 times)nor did I mention the ripped back seat , the orange peel paint ,the ***le that's not in the sellers name(or state)etc, etc.

I could not feel any worse than I already do no matter what some of you say.
Maybe I was giving my last chance at redemption for the human race (or the car salesman.)?? "

We have to own our mistakes. Sounds like you got hosed a little, but considering what you spent on it, you could have paid a Hamb member a few bucks to check it out. An ounce of prevention, a lesson for all of us.

So you've got two choices: Fix it and enjoy it, or sell it at a loss to recoup some of your money. If the bill of sale says 'as-is', you own the problems.

You have been on the HAMB since '05 and havent noticed the COUNTLESS posts about going out and looking at a car before you buy it? You didnt buy a new car, you bought a multiple decade old car. Put on your big boy *******, **** it, fix it or sell it, but whining about your buy over and over is saying more about you than the seller.

  15. Seems like you've bought and sold quite a few cars by your post history.
If you want what you think is perfect, you'll have to build it yourself.

But hiding things and building coverups for ******** is a completely different matter. Is this what you are saying happened ?

Never, ever buy a car unless you can or have put your eyes on it. I have seen so many unhappy folks who paid the price of not looking first. Often a small concern to one fellow is major drama to another.

I only buy cars that I can put my eyes and hands on. And then I try to find a reason NOT to buy it. I have never bought something I later had regrets about.

AHAHA... We've bought a couple of cars sight unseen and ended up having to re-do a bunch of half ***ed stuff that required some serious labor. We'd be happier than a kitten with a ball of yarn if the only flaw were a couple of bubbles in the paint.
Sand it and stick the ****er in grey primer. I dunno what you paid for it but from what I heard flawless cars cost around $50k... Just sayin

I have never bought a car sight unseen but have often been sorry I bought one. Plenty of eeky beekies turn up even if you look the car over.

I never beef about it either, it never does any good and I don't like looking like a fool. At least, not any more than I can help.

I am the ultimate cheap ******* when I buy an old car... it has to be a ridiculous deal that I can't p*** up. Too bad I'm piss-broke when most of those come along.

If you want a car with perfect paint, perfect wiring, guaranteed to start and go every day, your local Toyota dealer will be glad to sell you a brand new one, and even arrange easy payments.

  28. Let's see, you bought a car that seems to be selling in the $35K and up range in excellent condition for only $25K and that didn't raise any red flags? Not to say there's aren't some deals out there, but if you expect perfection you usually have to pay for it.

A user buys a car sight unseen and then somehow that reflects badly on the hamb alliance. I don't get it. Closed.
