I recently bought a '48 Ford 2 dr sedan mild street rod. Love the car, but it seems like the hood doesn't open to it's max. At full open, the front is below the roof line. I've seen pics of other 48's that show the hood like mine and others that show the front of the hood above the roof line. Any ideas??

My '47 Convertible has the same problem and I can't figure it out. I had the hood off for an engine swap and after re-installing the hood it didn't want to open all the way. Nothing looks any different to me.

This is the opening I'd like to have. Mine appears to only open about 2/3 of what this one does. Do you remember what p/n struts you used? Many thanks for the quick responses. I'm new here and haven't tried to figure out how to post pics yet.

  5. I would guess you need to raise the hinges on the cowl an old timer ( 40's Ford tech)explained that to get the hood to fit at the rear most guys lower the hinges but in reality they should be raised to set the hood and make the hinge fully collapse..I bet that also makes the hood open further...I do a lot of 46-48
fords and I can make the hoods fit perfect now...

I'm gonna give Kelly's suggestion a try. My hood looks like it may need to go back towards the cowl a bit also.

I went with the gas charged struts. The hood never fit better
