I keep my cars in a 36 X 24 garage with @10' "ceiling height" to trusses. (Built with 2x4 framing and trusses and 8' sheathing above three courses of block. The eaves have vented soffit and there is a ridge vent.). If possible I want to close in the ceiling with a single layer under the trusses of someting like ridgid insulation. Garage is freestanding and not attached to living space.

looking for suggestions on highest R-value sheet ridgid insulation that can "easily/simply" be used as ceiling on the "rafters" - bottom of the wood 2x4 x 24" on center trusses".

I'd prefer not to use fibergl*** and sheetrock since the trusses are only 2x4 anyway (on 24" ctr's) .

    Thanks

I just put Fiberboard up on mine, it has a R-value(low), comes in 4x8 sheets, and was only $6 a sheet. Worked out real well for me.

  3. If you are talking about using solid styrofoam sheets or something of that nature I would advise against it. You will not get a very high R-value and you will have all the gaps where air can get through. Cover it will plywood/drywall. Get yourself some blown-n cellulose insulation from your local Menards/Lowes/Home Depot. Your trusses will suport it, most houses are built with similar specs. It is light weight, easy to install, and will work much better. But that's just MY opinion.
