Doing this truck for a guy and thought you guys might like to see it. Has a great story behind it as it has been in his family, well his wife's family for over 45 years, she remembers it back to when she was 4 or 5. He bought it at an auction from a town fire house in Ohio, it was the chiefs truck. It has always been stored inside and is in very solid shape. She wants it perfect to take to where her father lives somewhere in eastern Pa for the towns 200th year anniversary this summer and surprise him with it.
Cab is now just sitting on the frame waiting for me to get the steering outa the way, all the other parts were taken to the media blaster this morning.
Nice truck,,and unusual,,there is one here in town that is a hot rod but you don't see them often. HRP
No, he wants it correct stock. I gotta eat and pay the bills so I do what they ask. I just thought it is a pretty rare truck and in such good shape you guys might like to see it.
Been awhile for updates on this,,,it is only a resto,,,,, Anyway I have the ch***is just about done and figured I should get the cab done and ready to go back on it. Got the Red on it and the gray inside.
They should join the Plymouth Owners Club in her dad's name and make that part of presenting the truck to him. VERY rare vehicle. http://www.plymouthbulletin.com/
A nice old truck. Hopefully the restoration will involve replacement of the front bumper with the correct one. The bumper that was on it is out of proportion to the truck and looks way out of place. - EM
Yes we already have the correct one waiting to go on. I have been trying to get him to replace the rear homemade step bumper also but he says that was built by the fire station and he wants to keep something of that history on it.
Any Plymouth pickup is a rare bird. I think they were only made from 37-40 and low production too. Survivors are few.
J53...under 11,000 built in '37, but DAMN FEW survivors since most were relegated to farm work and "trade" vehicles for plumbers, builders, gardeners, etc.
Well I know that the parts aren't out there to be had like a GM/Ford or even Dodge for that matter and you would think they would have a lot of common parts but they don't. Even the Plymouth car parts are very different. The UPS guy can't deliver much of this truck. This is the only one I have ever seen and really kinda honored that he chose me for the resto (even though I tried to talk him out of it). Should be a very neat truck when done. The tail gate was not a easy find and it wasn't a very good repop at all. Very flexable unsquare and the hinge points ****ed spent a lot of time working to get it correct. Finding chrome and SS trim is next to impossible. This box is all steel and formed out of 3 parts, each side is one part that starts in the center and is stamped from one peace of very heavy steel, thank god it wasn't rotten.
Figured I would post a couple pics of how it is looking now. I have been doing double duty on this and a 65 Malibu SS vert that we are doing a LS3 conversion on that will be one crazy build. But the truck is coming along very nice I think.
Been getting some things done on this between 2 other projects. Thought maybe some of you might like to see it again. The interior is done all the gl*** is in and it runs and drives again.
Finally got it done and took it out for its 1st public outing today. It is amazing how many people didn't know Plymouth ever made a truck.
