I found an old chevy in a row of cars thats going to be crushed, and can get it cheap. I was wondering what has been done to it? It looks like buick(?) headlights and some grill teeth and grill guard from ? also, is that the stock banjo-ish steering wheel? if not, what was that from? TIA, Matt
53/54 Buick headlights canted and it looks like some Desoto(maybe) teeth...banjo wheel.....save this car!
Please save that car. Even if you decide you don't want it for yourself, just get it into the hands of someone who does.
Save the car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea what will happen to you if you don't. Trust me, you don't want to deal with the consiquences. I can't tell you know how i know, but i do. It does look like a desoto grill, and buick headlights.
Dig that fuzzy upolstered dash trim. Is that actually a ford banjo wheel stuck in there? Also heres the bad part, but I think I can scare up a back window and maybe a trunk lid. This was a pretty trick car for this area, back in the day. We'll see how long the pics are up before fototime pulls the plug.
Looks pretty cool with the Buick headlights. Wonder what the taillights are though, no glass left on the right side either?
Cool! It looks like someone put a bit of work in to the old gal some time ago. It looks like a 51 too (?). What does it have for an engine?
Hmm, maybe its the way she is dented up, but something looks different in the rear window area too.........
My 51 has trim on the rear fender. The gravel guard in front of the wheel well and the trim piece above it. Cool car, save it for that steering wheel if nothing else!
I didn't even notice the taillights were diffrent. I'll have to get a better look next time. I was in to much of a hurry, and never popped the hood, probably a 3-carb jimmy six under there.
If you don't want it, I'll drive up to Morehead and take it. It's in better shape than the crap I'm trying to resurrect (except for the back, but that works cuz it's the only part of my Fleet that's in decent shape). I really dig those buick headlights.
Even with the rear and roof damage that looks like a money maker, lots of parts guys need are on that car. Save it!
De luxes have the gravel shield, but if it also has the trim like this Fleetline it's probably been put there cause somebody liked it... The front fender trim on a 51 is wider & on a 52 the parkinglights are all glass, 51 is half glass & half chrome.
that's what i was thinking. that is not the stock rear window. don't know if i like it, but it's easy enough to swap out. save the car! if you don't want it, put it in the classifieds here on the hamb. i'd like to see the various stages of progress on bringing this one back to life. tred.
That banjo wheel may be 1953 Buick Golden Anniversary option. If the center hub of the wheel is painted, it may have a surprise underneath the paint. The Golden Anniversary steering wheels had a gold brass-era Buick inlay in the plastic hub. Pretty cool. I remember passing one up years ago when I pulled the sweep spears because I didn't have a hub-puller!
Save it! Though it looks like it has tailights on the rear fenders, but the bumperettes look to be conveted into tail lights too. Take a good look at this car, probably alot of hidden treasures. Ken
if the car is too far gone, which it looks like, i would at least save the front sheetmetal which is basically the only custom part of the car, its just too cool to be crushed
I took a good look on Carnut and the rear window is stock IMO its just distorted because of the damage.
I agree, it's just warped. And the car don't have any other "bodymods" so it would seem really pointless to change the rear window...
I agree the back glass is stock, the 52 had a full park light and grille teeth, I think about or 4 in the same grille as a 51 rear quarter spears are the same 51 and 52, you need to save it. Dont let no tin fall prey to the crusher!!!!!.........RP
*UPDATE* I went to look at this car again on sunday. A this car ain't a "custom" The buick rings are screwed to stock chevy fenders. Its has the stock motor/trans. The grill teeth are stainless and are very nice. The rest is nothing to right home about. If I can get $400-$500 for it I'll turn it, otherwise I'll have to part it, as I can't really store it.
Could be thats like a 37-38 Buick wheel. I have a core '37 here (I know, pulled it off the car) and it looks a lot like that. They'd fit right on the Chevy column with no mods, too - GM uses the same size steering shaft and same number of splines from the 30s through into the 90's. It's in as good of shape as mine, except for the dent in the edge of the deck lid, and the lower body looks like it's better. I would save it - the glass can be found, I even have an extra set here. In fact I have a parts 'line that you could cut the whole lower rear window area out of if you wanted, I know of a couple others too. Hard to tell on the grille teeth - did anyone make aftermarket teeth to go on the 51-52 Chevy grille bar? '52 had teeth stock but they were shaped different.
Also looks like it has the stock 51 or 52 front bumper guard, along with an additional '49 Chevy front licence plate guard on it. We can't let shit like this get crushed. The car is pretty fucked up, but still, pull it home and part it out or at the very least, go out there and pick the car clean of custom parts and good trim before it gets crushed. Even if the car isn't saveable, the world still needs all the good salvageable pieces off of it.
