Trying to figure out if my 65 c20 has a 292 or 250. I looked by the distributor it reads F0327UH. Also how do i know if it has matching numbers?
    Thanks!

All I can tell you is look at the motor mounts,if they are about the same place on both sides of the block then its a 250 but if one is off then its a 292. I think the 292s had a byp*** hose coming off the thermostat housing to the water pump and the 250 does not.

The 292 is a lot taller and the lifter covers are a couple inches taller the comment about motor mounts is another good clue.

    UH is a 292 for a 65 chevy pickup.

There aren't really any "matching numbers" on these things. Best you can do is try to figure out the production date from other date codes or the VIN, and see if the engine was built around that time. It really doesn't matter though....it's just an old work truck. If it was a Vette or a 409 Belair or something, then it would make a difference

That depends. If you want a 292, and have the money, and can't find one in good condition for a good price, then it could be worth getting rebuilt.

I have a couple worn out 292s...I'm seriously considering rebuilding one to put in an old bread truck.

292 is much taller than 250. Look at the height of the side covers. Comments on motor mounts are correct.

I am in process of rebuilding a 292 in an original 67 Suburban. Yeah I coulda gone small block and spent less money but what is the fun in that.

Talked to the local engine builder, he said a complete rebuild ,everything from break down to paint. High end 2500.
Only engine rebuild I've ever done was a snowmobile engine. Would this be a good learning process to do it myself?

Probably. you should be able to do most of the dis***embly and ***embly yourself. You'll need some special tools, of course.
