I am in the middle of putting a new long block in my 55 Pontiac. However I find that the Distributor is stuck in the motor won't move at all! Glad the timing was okay:rolleyes:. Now might be a good time to go HEI or similar. What years fit? I see small cap HEI distributors advertised on Evilbay that claim to fit. 287 up, but have my doubts? Anyone know for sure??

I'm soaking it now, but what if it won't come out? It is frozen solid!

Ok, got it loose, still would like know what fits though, for later problems, in case of a failure?

If I remember correctly, the 55-56 distributors don't have that handy little window on the side that allows you to dial in the dwell right on the numbers once you have the car started. Not sure if the 57 up units w the window will fit or not.

All Pontiac V8 distributers will work!
For your application a '57-60 is a good choice!

I'm running an HEI on my '57 347 with no trouble. Fits perfect, runs great and looks awful. I'm really partial to HEI. I believe it to be the simplest, easiest to maintain distributor ever. I think mine came out of a early 70's 400.

  8. Any of the window style Pontiac distributors will fit. I would suggest that over the stock distributor not only for ease of adjustment but the points for an early distributor(non-window)cost more than the cap, rotor, condenser, and points for a window style. At least they did the last time I went to buy them(before I converted).
