First, watch the dumpsters near you when there is commercial remodeling going on. I dug these louvered sheet metal panels out of a dumpster behind an Eckerds store becoming a CVS store. Probably part of a display of some sort. Heavy sheet metal. Store for some time. You'll know the right time to pull 'em out. Dig out louvered panels for Hamb dragster project. Hmmmm, maybe body panels, what about a floor? Why not? Cut the metal to size with the handy Makita 4" angle grinder and cut off wheels. Don't forget your face shield. Break out the patented Trailer Tail Metal Brake. Notice the engineering. Pipe clamps, a piece of 2x4 tubing and something to lean the metal against. It probably helped that the metal had louvers. Made those clean crisp straight lines easier. Now the floor is roughed into shape. LOTS of refitting around roll bars, notching, cutting tranny tunnel, etc... might have to cut it into pieces to put it back, but it gave me something to do while I'm waiting for other parts to get here. And it looks cool. And I have more. So go hit those dumpsters. Dan
It's amasing what you can put to good use when you think about it hard enough. Everything is good for something
They are tossing all sorts of cool shit from the small Walmart in Palmdale that became a Super one around the corner. 30 rolloffs went out today. Shelving, racks, metal, etc. I was too busy loading all the stuff I bought today, but tomorrow I will have my hot rod parts eyes on. tomorrow is the last day. Hell you could own your own WALMART sign. its going in the trash tomorrow!
I work as a contractor building Elevator's in DC. We work in alot of government and other buildings around the capitol. You will not belive all the shit that gets thrown away.Good shit too. Mini Fridge's, cabinets (some with louvers for cooling for computers etc) Personally our company throws away several TONS of scrap steel when we rennovate an elevator..... humm... I may see your point...
I keep my eye out at work. Lot of renovating (continuous improvment ). I snagged a steel cabinet 36x36x24, abotu $300 in Northern Tool. A bunch of scrap steel. Always a bunch of shop stuff getting thrown out, crazy but I guess cheaper then selling off???
Lookin good Dan. Turning free/discarded stuff into cool stuff is my hotrodding philosophy. Hence the name "recycler". It was taught to me by my father. Its cool, rock on. Brad
Well I hadn't thought of that. Hopefully the return roads this Hamb dragster sees are paved. It may whistle when it hits top speed though. Dan
Dan, I'll bet you never here a whistle, gonna be to many other mechanical noises to listen to. (G) Larry T
A few years ago I was given some old electrical locker pieces these things was thick around 1/8", I took and bolted everything together and made a really nice bench for Oxy/Acel welding. Dawg
