PO smoothed the dash in my newly acquired 39 pickup. I really like the look when people swap in later (50s) dash pieces. So.. I'm ready to look for something that I can use. I probably won't be sectioning an entire dash from something else into it but hopefully a decent looking speedo, etc. I've got about 9 inches or so of flat/vertical surface if I stick with what's in there now. If I can find something with more than just a speedo I also am going to be running 12 volt (something to keep in mind). Not really interested in buying new, made to look old stuff. Any ideas for a good donor to look for? Thanks- Greg
Here is the absolute worst pic I could come up with... But it really isn't much more than a smooth panel with no gauges currently. Look close - right there under my kids arm. See it? I'll take a better one when I get home but doubtful if it'll show a drastically different scene. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I think a finned or ribbed aluminum panel looks best, leaving the original dash in and fitting a custom made panel to fit the shape of the dash. I had the local sign shop cut mine on thier CNC router. The car is my 29 roadster and the dash is from a 31 Studebaker and the finned panel cut to fit the contour of the dash.
Thanks oldschool- yours looks really nice. What gauges did you use? My first idea was to transplant a factory unit in there but yours and flatheadjohns both look pretty slick. Guess I need to toss a coin and decide which direction to pursue. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I personally liked the stock flat dash. I used TPI speedo and 4 in 1 cluster. It was the only one that fit in the stock holes. Looks pretty cool with a moon tach on the column with a connecting rod drop.
