Hi, Wonder if any of you took some more pics of Kurt McCormick's 1941 Cadillac Kustom at the SEMA show ? I've seen the one in the SEMA thread and a blurry one from some other site, but no really good ones. Thanks J.B.
Yeah Baby!!! Thank you for posting the rear view. I was wanting to see more pictures. Kurt is a real kool guy, and I'm impressed he actually drives these museum pieces. Anymore Pics?? Happy Trails, Mick
Wonder why they always destroy the lines on a custom car by opening hoods, doors, trunks etc. ? Cool engine, yes, but that is a bonus and has nothing to do with the appearance of the car. And don't even mention putting up big signs to cover the front, instead of on the side... Close the hood, fold down the spots and throw away those signs and we can finally see this masterpiese in it's full glory! Keep the pics coming, pleeeze... This is one of the greats.
Oh my. I really like that. Only one other Caddy that's p cooler. It's owned by by a littl ol dude from Texas that's in some kinda band....
I'm really with you.It was the same with "Nadine". Flatheadpete,no offense but comparing Cadzilla (I 8 TOKYO) to the "Westergard" Caddy is like comparing apples to pickles. Both are Cads, both are cool but totally different.I know, you just favor the other one. Here are two pics stolen from the Hop Up Mag site.Hope we get to see some good pics soon...
J.B. I agree the headlights might have looked better molded to the fenders.... But since this is a restoration of and original Harry Wetergard customs I think they had to stay the way they found the custom. Harry apperently did not want to have them molded on this car, or perhaps the owner for which it was built ensisted on having them as seperate units... After all this is a Historic Custom, which needed to be restored in the best way possible. Kurt and his crew did a wonderful job. What an great sample of 40's custom styling. Now visualize this '41 Caddy and Kurts Black (Herb Ogden's) '41 Buick side by side.... WOW Here are some more pictures. (sorry, some are a bit small)
I agree to the fullest, but I think they should have included the drivetrain in that concept. Kurt obviously plans to drive it, as it has a modern drivetrain (although it looks like a fifties motor) and AC, and that is good. I just think it may have worked just as good with more period-correct parts, and also looked better.
I am glad you guys like the car. It was both honor and a pleasure to not only get to work an a real Westergard car but to work for Kurt McCormick!! He is an absolute pleasure to deal with and is a great friend because of this. We hit it real hard to make SEMA with it. We have some more details to finish, some glass, shifter, get running, and minor adjustments. I also agree as does most real custom guys that it would flow better with the hood down. I think the engine looks awsome with all the old school stuff on it(contrary to prior posts, the only modern things on the car is yes the A/C, which is mostly hidden except for the compressor, and oines yet to run and it does have an overdrive-using a Wilcap adaptor) the rest is pure traditional and old school even down to dome lights, ignition switch, headlight switch, real-not repo hub caps, coil, intake, valve covers, all real and true traditional stuff. I have a few reasons for the hood being opne, the cool look of it all, to show the "tuner kids" at SEMA what a real motor looks like, and I am proud of all the work I did under the(for instance, I filled and metal finished 62-yes 62 holes in the firewall! Oh, yes the main reason, the hood is fighting me to get lined back up....thats the main reason..heehheI will never understand how you can take months fitting everything and when you blow aprt for paint, they never fit back quite right! We took a few minor liberties with some details, and design to make it a better car, that it did not originally have, such as the cut down Buick side trim, 40 Merc hood center trim, chrome dash, Olds dash knobs, just a few little things that lend good to the overall feel and flow to the project. I was plaaning on posting some good pics of it on here, but haven't had the time yet. I will get some good clan shots and post sometime soon, its got tons of neat little things done that I think you guys will like.
What Kurt has told me is he thinks they were made by Hildebrandt, as possibly a small run or maybe a private label. My uncle had heard of them but had never seen a set. Kurt had a buddy make him some cool "Pribble Equippped" stickers for the wings vents also. Also, some have asked about the headlight rings. Westergard never did anything with the rings but paint them on this car, so that is why we did that. Same with the antenna.
Now that I thought of it the Falconer car always had painted headlight rings also. For historical reasons you guys couldnt french the headlights.....and now that I really think about it chrome wouldnt cut it either.
I actually know of 4 sets of Pribble valve covers, this set makes 5. I actually have seen 2 sets for sale, compared to only one pair of Hildebrandts for sale. I would say that they were probably from the Hildebrandt mold. There were a lot of parts that were "copied" at the foundry level. I believe that a lot of the Edmunds stuff falls into the same catagory. I think that there was something about "Pribble" stuff being made for a race team that ran Cadillacs. KidRocker (Dean) bought the ones that were on Ebay awhile ago, came with a really nice homemade sheet metal intake, kind of supports the race car therory. Cool none the less. Brock
Yes, I've seen this on Westergard kustoms before and it's a good thing you didn't change that. It was only my own personal taste to mold them in to the fenders. I really appreciate the job being done here and hope to see the car live someday. Looking forward to seeing your pics soon!!! More painted headlight rings...
