OK guys finally got my car finished but am having idle issues. Hoping there are some Rochester 2G gurus that could help. Engine is SBC 327, .030" over, 10:1 CR, solid lift cam with 0.52" lift and 290 duration with 110 lobe separation. I've got fuel pressure regulator and gauge and it has 5 psi, no leaks around end carbs. When you look down in the center carb it just is not putting any fuel out at idle. A guy here at home said I need a different power valve in center carb, does that sound right to anyone? I built the center carb back stock with a kit you get at the parts store. And I've done it twice now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like a plugged idle circuit you wont see any fuel coming from the venture at idle because idle circuit is below throttle plate

I have just about the same setup as you, perhaps a milder cam though. Im still working out the bugs on mine, but I'm getting close. If you are idling fine then don't worry about it. As stated above, you won't see fuel at idle, only when you crack the throttle open. It's also my understanding that the secondary carbs should have both their idle circuits and the power valves removed and plugged. In m situation I wound up having to slightly drill out the idle tubes in order to achieve a good idle. Dicktster on the hamb is the man, he took the time to walk me through how to work out the bugs. I strongly suggest giving him a call and or some business... Very solid guy who knows his shit. Good luck!

I should specify that I had to drill out the idle tubes of the primary carb only.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Yeah my end carbs have no idle circuits in them at all and power valves are removed. The car won't idle at all but if u get the rpm's up out of the idle circuit it's ok. I will try to contact dickster. Thanks!

Stock trips two end carbs don't have anything on/in them except accelerator pumps.

I have a set in the front floorboard of my '67 Camaro that are either J-2's or Indian's from the later '50's.

are the butterflies closed on the other carbs? since they don't have idle circuits there cannot be any air flow thru them that would lean out your idle mixture

  9. Yep ^^^ and if they are pulling air they will take the air away from the center carb, the end carbs are the closest to the ports. Lack of air flow to the center carb will mean no fuel being siphoned from the float bowl.

if you are running 3 idle circuits then that is not an issue.

Your cam with the high lift long duration and tight LSA on the small cube engine may also be a contributing factor to your poor idle quality.

How may inches of vacumm are you pulling at idle, your power valve is sized according to vacumm.
