All, Some sad news (english translation of the newspaper Politiken) Guitarist Link Wray, considered one of the the pioneers of US Rock n Roll in the 1950's, and a cult figure, p***ed away at 76 years of age, in Copenhagen, where he had lived the past two decades, according to todays newspaper "Politiken." His powerful guitar riffs earned him the nickname "Godfather of the Power Cord" and the respect of several generations of musicians who followed his legacy, though he never recieved the level of recognition of contemporaries like Gene Vincent or Elvis Presley.* . . . Play "rumble" and remember a legend, cause you know he's tearin' it up, up there.
Wow, what did he die of? I watched him in concert in may, and he looked about as healthy as could be. He played for hours. Thats way too bad, he will be missed.
just heard about this earlier today. a real drag..............never got the recognition he deserved...
It didnt give the cause, Its crazy, but I actually had to search this out to see if it was true or not, no word of it here in the USA, but it was headline news in sweden.
God Damn It Man....this Just Ruined My Day... An Idol That Will Be Greatly Missed! I'm Glad I Got To See Him While I Did..... Rest In Peace Holmes!
Rumble...1'st song I learned to play in 1962...on a Kay acoustic...another legend gone. You young guys need to see these people in concert and meet 'em whenever you can...take pictures...start making your memories TODAY....
damn, ****s he's gone but I'm damn glad he was here he truely was one of the greats, his music will last for a long long time
Link Wray had the "at***ude" of pure rock and roll....his styles (Yes there was more than one) transcended every guitarist who knew of him, including me. I've been playing steady since 1961 and Link was a huge part of my early years learning to play guitar...he was one of my big heros even to this day. An under-rated musical genius...that was Link Wray. R.I.P...my condolences to his family.
Oh man.............not a good way to start the day. We have lost another great one. He will be missed! E
If you watch the 1994 Rodriguez movie ROADRACERS, Link had a huge influence on the aura of the movie. You can even see Link Wray posters on Dude Delaney's garage door. Hate to hear it. Reverend Jake
****!...That ****s.I was hoping to see him when he came around to the states again. It's sad. He moved over to Europe becasue they apreciated his music WAY more than we yanks did. He was a true inovator and Inventor. He punched holes in the speaker of his amplifier, and thereby invented what guitar players know today as fuzz-tone. He used simple chord progressions on his guitar, was one of the first guitarists to experiment with feedback, and became known for his "power chord" that so many rockers adopted and became a mainstay of rock and roll. He influecnced rockers from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend, who all state that one of their bigest influencers wa Link Wray. His p***ing is a great loss to the music world and to all of us. R.I.P. Link
