Hey guys I'm Chad and I'm an 18 year old from the most bitter cold part of Canada: the Yukon. Anyways I've been lurking the HAMB for a while and just decided to join because I may be getting a 51 Olds 88 four door in the next while. First off I was wondering what the market for parts is like for these cars, and what you guys think of it? Also if someone could Photoshop it that would be even better. My plans are to put it on airbags, with a metal flake orange roof and pinstriping that I will do myself. It has no drivetrain but I have plans for a 500 Caddy hooked up to a Muncie 4. Some wide whites wrapped around chrome steelies and then some small stuff like headlight lids and what not. Thanks for your input and help and I will hopefully be starting a build thread in the next couple months!
Here is a picture of the car, sorry if it's not great quality, I m still getting used to the app and the way the forum is laid out. Thanks
Parts are around, check your local listings like CL and Cl***ifieds for old parts of various types to get an idea what kind of stuff is out there. Focus on getting it going under its own power FIRST. Don't spend time and money making it handle and sparkle before making it go and stop. It looks COOL as it sits right now, save your grand vision for later stages. That car is super clean and you'll get some mileage out of what's there already.
Welcome! I would also get it going and stopping under it's own power first. For parts I would focus on the internet, and as many swap meets as you can find that are worth driving to.
Hi everyone, iam Rick I have 1955 ford fairlane.restoring plan on painting it two tone black and plum crazy purple. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Welcome, Rick, but it looks like you posted your intro as a comment here and not as a new thread in the introduction forum. Pop up a level and try again so people see you!
That's the thing that ****s about living up North, while there is a fairly large car scene, I've never heard of a single swap meet, not even at car shows. But thanks for the tips! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Welcome from the great state of Wisconsin. Your car looks good. Like the others have said, get it driving and drive the hell out of it. You need time to fall in love with the car before you tear it down. That love of driving it will be your motivation to finish the build and get it back on the road. Without that, it will likely become just another project car looking for a new home. Good luck, this is a great place to learn.
