hey guys. im new to the h.a.m.b today. a new born i guess you could say. i've always wanted a hot rod, could never afford to buy one finished so im going to try my hand at building one. ive got the body bought, just have to wait for the 3 feet of snow to melt up north first. have my front end bought, super bell axle, 4" drop. early ford spindles, wish bones, (need to split them), going with the spring over on the front, ford 9" on the way. and going to start building the chassis tomorrow. so while im sitting here, this is what im looking to do, and any help or idea's advice would be a help. im going ot post pics of a finished car, (not mine, wish it was) and pics of the car i bought. or what there is of a car. maybee a bumpy ride but im going to just do it anyway. i,m going to do full fenders, hood top,. no sides, 4" chop, 429 ford power plant, and i want it to sit low, but not too low. just wondering how much i need have for a kick up in the rear and how much too channel it. or if any of this is possible being im doing full fenders. need to start getting ideas and input before i start.
I concur. its probably not. but im wondering if I can channel it to get it a little lower or do I even need to if I do just a little more of a kickup un the rear
I don't know. it looks like its probably as low as it should go already with running boards and fenders on it huh
If youre running fenders I wouldnt try to channel it at all you will run into a heck of alot of problems just getting the fenders to fit!!! If you are a bigger guy I wouldnt channel it either even if you went fender-less because you are just taking room out of the inside of the body for you to fit in. If you run no fenders I would Z the frame to lower it that way it gets the whole car down but saves the interior space.
well. got the car home couple weeks ago. in the mean time i managed to get a frame built for it. just made it out of a 2x6. did some cutting bending and shaping and came up with this.
im going to work on down loading the pictures from my phone of the car. i didnt take a whole lot of pictures of it while i was working on it but oh well. car was a mess. doors didnt line up. whole thing was twisted , you name it, it was bad, no sub rails no nothing. car kinda fell apart when me and the boys took it out of the pickup. but i think i got a handle on it. maybee.
Did you fab the frame to Model A dimensions? Maybe someone else will offer advice, but your frame looks to wide, and I think the kick-up at the rear is a no go for full fenders. If you are a tall guy, you may want to find an A with a 4" chop and take a ride before you get out the saw.
cut out all the old structure on the bottom of the car so i could put it on the frame. got every thing as close as i could and tacked in a new sub floor with 1x2 tubing
doors wouldnt line up. major gapissues when i tried to close them. body lines wouldnt line up so i took them off and had to re build the whole bottom 9 inches or so and re skinned them
Your project is coming along nicely. Can't help but mention it looks in one picture like there might be a gas cylinder that is free standing without being chained to keep it from tipping over. I'm not a safety freak but if it's not chained you are looking for big trouble. If I'm wrong, sorry. Just saying.......Please work safely.
then decided to do a 3 1/2" chop. oh yah the body is channeled about 3 1/2" too. decided that my door openings ere square and even so i cut and fit the doors in after i chopped it. worked out pretty good. body lines match nice. gaps are even and the doors open and close nice. suprised that the original door latches and handles actually work.oh yah. you guys gotta bare with me on this, i dont have annt fancy tools like most of you on here. basically a hammer and a grinder.
as far as the frame being to wide i think the car fits nicely on it. and im 6' tall and after the chop ive got about 5 inches over my head
just need yo move the rear axle back 2" to center it in the fender opening. its just tacked in right know so thats an easy one there
You'll be fine, as it is apparent that your welding skills are up to the challenge and you are open-minded enough to pick the best minds on the H.A.M.B. I love 28-29s and know that you will, too.
