Hello everyone, an old friend of mine (don't know his HAMB name) told me about this place last week so I checked it out, looks like my kinda stuff. I have a 37 Chevy Coupe that I have owned since 1979, and I am currently starting a frame off rebuild as a 60's style hot rod,(small block, tri power, 4 speed etc.) I also own a 1937 Chevy half ton pickup,(stocker) and a 63 Impala Hardtop that my parents bought new. I would post some pictures if I wasn't such a dumbass. Is there a tutorial on posting pics? I work as a lab tech for an OEM automotive paint supplier, I am the one that makes up all those hard to match colors on the new cars. This place looks like fun........
Here is my 37 coupe before I tore it apart. Please don't give me grief about the graphics,it was the 80's you know......
Welcome I'm sure you will like this site. Since your a paint tech let me ask you about the photo matching done at the retail outlets. I've run my fender down to two stores had them photo match the paint but it has been off by a couple shades darker. Any hints why?
Is it a metallic color? Those photo eyes can only read color hue (green, red, yellow, etc.) and value (light, dark). If it is a metallic or pearl they can't read the particle size of the flake (coarse, fine) which can throw the value off if the flake size is wrong. Is it too dark overall or just at certain angles? Also they are better at matching if you already know what the color is,say it's a blue on a 98 Chevy,it wiil start with that formula and adjust it from there instead of searching for a color that is unknown. Let me know and I can give you some advice on tinting it....
The color is a maroon from a 77 Lincoln no flake or pearl I even have the paint number. I thought they used that color and the photo shoot to do the mix. But the colr seemed a little dark to the surrounding area. Also I'm looking at it straight on with a couple of 500 watt lamps but inside my pole barn but it is obvious that it does not match. You can pm me on this instead of using the intro page. Thanks, Gerry
