My Thoughts...for what they are worth

    1. Maybe just roll the edge of the bed over and not weld on a pipe. If you do weld a pipe, it will warp so pre bend it by 1/4-1/2 inch in the center. Rolling the edge will have the effect of lowing the bed side a little and won't fight with the fins as much as a pipe will.
    2. No portal window...cool thing, but save it for the shop wall. Rear window needs to be rectangular or maybe a Chevy emblem from an old van? (I know I'll get grief about that)
    3. Fender openings...ON the back, I would round the front of the rear wheel well openings, and on the front, I would straighten the back of the front fender lip.
    4. I also agree that the front tire too far up in the fender, raise it up a bit and air bag it later.
    5. still thinking about the missing section...my initial thought is the bottom edge ( in front of the back wheels) needs to be much lower than where the back section is located.
    6. You need to think about the trailing edge of the bed side and how it will be supported and how it will balance with the back of the fenders. You can't put an outside brace on it, that will look bad. Just something to consider at this point.
    7. Most importantly...Where are your stainless steel exhaust ports going to go? Ha.

I think those fenders look terrible Blue......:) But if you send them up here I could put them to good use. I think you have the right idea with getting some cardboard and rolling it out of the shop and standing back and having a good look.

KS , I like it . The a arms are all the way down to get it in the low shop . Usually 5" taller the bags are all the way down . Can you streach the top of rear fenders upto top of bed . b-bop , send me the postage in small bills . LOL Blue

I had to search to figure out what those quarter are off....did I guess right? 1959 Dodge Royal. I think you are going to need some more chrome! I've been playing with photo-chopping the quarters and the bed. Now that I know what the rest of the trim looks like I can do a little more.

This is with all the trim and the bed side lowered about 3" (notice the clock hands on the wall for a distance reference)

This is heavily modified. Sleeper bottom edge lowered, full running board, quarter dropped in front or rear tires, front fenders reshaped and stainless trim run up onto sleeper. It is just done in "Microsoft paint" program so it is not really high quality, but the best I have access too.

  12. I'd be proud to own that! The chrome and paint pull it together nicely.

I gotta stop messing around with these drawings...now I want to build one.

It needs the rear bumper and the bed should stop short and not stick out.

FYI - I realized that I used the wrong quarters on the drawing. I took them from a pic of a 59 dodge truck and now realized that the fin is a little different on the car...oops. It's hard to find a good side view of these cars. I guess they were so long that no one could fit them in the camera viewer.

We should probably quit "Foose-ing" around on the internet and get to work on our trucks...did you package arrive yet?

Lots of chrome on ePay for 59 Dodges.

Then color scheme is a result of cutting and pasting the panel off other pictures. There are a million different ways to do your truck.

  18. I love this kind of stuff, what would happen if you matched the top edge of the box with the inner edge of the fender/trunk opening, so the box no longer had the 45* angle and just rounded down to the bed in the back? (No tailgate) I like the second picture with the larger red panel on the sleeper

Steve , your kinda thinking like I am . I am thinking of cutting the box sides down to 9" above floor ( this would make the fins above the box ). got to have tailgate as it will be cut down u haul ramp 7"x18" with 9" above and 9" below floor . The ramp will have a sm cover on it . I have to have it because this will be my old bike hauler . Pictures are from a friends DR used for same .

Just a quick note . I got back from Big Bend last week and have been busy . Worked on 3 bikes and started rewiring the 57 buick .Have friends down from S.D. and they go with us to LSR in 3 weeks so we are going ti take the Buick and not my 39 pu .

Along time hot rodder and owner of 3 NAPAs is thining down and I went to see what he had looked all day and going back next week . Picked up some tools and a set of old American Mags for my wives 59 wagon , also a 12ooo" 2 post lift ( hes got 4 more) .

Made a tool for bending metal today . Saw it at a Gene Winfield cl*** a made my own copy . Put a 2 1/2 pipe on one end so I can slide in smaller pipe inside to mount things on . First is a plow disk to hold sand bag . Still have to cut small legs off for wheels . Stopped today when it got hot . The FR Wrangler shirt must have been washed to much cause it got real hot . Latter Blue

Well April is almost over . Very busy , with LSR , AMCA BIKE RUN , PATE next week , and rewiring the 57 Buick , and my 65th birthday .

Maid a lot of new friends at LSR .

While wireing the Buick I put some custom lens on . Will be selling the Buick to fund my wives wagon .

Will get back on COE May 1st and work hard till LARS . Will move COE out to my big carport and tear it down and blast for final weld and paint of frames an start putting it back for good . Then on to body paint and such . It will not be as fast as Sanders but who is .

Anyone interested in Buick pm me .
