I am restoring a 55 4 door and could use better doors. Found both p***enger doors at Pate swap meet in Ft Worth yesterday. They were marked 55 chev. the man said he bought a 57 that they were on and changed them out. Got them home today and they are different. The ss trim is almost 3 inches lower and the scalloped out area that meets the rear fender well is about three inches higher.. Can anyone tell me what the difference is. One tells me 55-57 are all interchangeable. The other says the 55 and 56 will interchange but 57 is diff. Can anyone out there give me the straight scoop on this? Please?
What is different, is it the holes for mounting the side trim? Or is it the size of the door? The trim is different every year, you have to fill in the holes and drill new ones. It's usually easier to find the correct year/model doors instead of doing all that body work.
Has been my understanding that the doors interchange. The molding holes are spaced different on some models.
Send me a pm. I believe I have some old doors. The bottoms could be bad. I will have to look, but I think all the stainless is there.
Had many of tri fives, but they were all 2 doors. The trim holes are going to be different and their the least of your worries. The problem is the dip in the door where the paint divider goes is definitely going to be different. I don't think the paint divider is going to line up. I think the dip is set back a few inches further back on a 57 if I remember right. Could be wrong.
The cutout out the bottom of the rear doors are different for the different wheel well openings, every thing else with the exception of the trim holes and the door lock locations are the same.
