Need some help. I have a Snap-On S9023 spring spreader for A's and V8's. All the snap on catalogs I have found online (from 1936 and 1937) refer to it having a ball bearing thrust, yet I see no bearings in mine. I am missing something? Thanks, Will
I've seen an old one not sure if it was snap on. It had a thrust bearing much like the king pin thrust bearing. Picture might jog the minds of the experts.
Can you put up pics? I still have my late fathers OTC spreader from his 1950s shop, that dates from the 50s or likely earlier. His never had a ball bearing thrust. If yours did, it would be where the big nut rides against the hollow tube that the threaded shaft slides into.
You won't believe my spring spreader... a very heavy duty guy wire turnbuckle for big antennas. My buddy came over one day and said I don't know how we can use it but here it is. A few months later we used it to hang the rear axle. I'm very fond of the price...found on the side of the road. As an old friend said freebees are goodbees. ;-)
I also have a old Snap On spring spreader and do not have a bearing.Maybe was lost.Works fine without it.
I found this online, http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/old-snap-on-s-9023-model-a-leaf-spring-spreader I'd think that any bearing would be inside the hub that the ratchet mechanism is on. That is an interesting piece of equipment if the one you got is in good shape.
