    Hi guys!

I am pretty new here, but love the info and education that I am getting. I have been working on car projects for about 20 years. I've so far restored:
    1963 Fairlane 500 wagon
    1957 Corvette
    1969 Chevrolet truck
    Currently working on a 1965 Olds 442

I again want to say how much I like this forum, but I did have a terrible first experience. I found a set of valve covers over on the classifieds that were represented as " No damage, no repairs, no problems. They are in very good condition."
Welp upon receipt of the covers they had DEEP gouges and scratches on the tops, so deep it took 20 minutes of 60 grit on a sander to get them out, and a large crack in one of the covers that had been covered up with some now dry rotted white gasket sealer or silicone. Obviously the pictures the member posted did not show the white dry rotted goop all over the cover. I tried to contact the member and talk to him about it and basically got hung up on!
How do you guys deal with a situation like this? I wasn't even wanting a refund or to return the covers, I just felt like it would be fair for him to pay the bill to have the crack mig welded? Is that unreasonable?

Thanks guys, and again GREAT forum!

  2. Welcome to the HAMB!

There's not much in the way of policing the classifieds transactions (read below).

BUT, I would suggest direct your inquiry to the classifieds moderator, corncobcoupe via a PM.

Then put it behind you and continue reading and learning.

  3. Sorry to hear about that valve cover deal. But welcome to the HAMB, enjoy!

Thanks guys, I have sent transaction info to the moderators. Its a shame that people will not stand behind their word and transactions, especially when you pay a premium for a busted part!

Welcome! from northern Wi. Contact Ryan.(Administrator) I don't think they can monitor or police the huge volume of buyers and sellers here. I like to think most people are honest and with good intentions, But MY life's experience notes, there's a HUGE difference in what's Cherry or Mint condition in sellers eyes, verses my buyer eyes. No suggestions, just my thoughts and opinion. Good Luck with your project and Enjoy the HAMB, Best forum in the net, I've found. John

I agree with you 100%, and I am not picky, I restore valve covers. I have gotten all kinds of covers come in that have been in "Good" condition, I have never complained until now, I'm used to scratches, dings, issues here and there but this is the exact wording in the ad " No damage, no repairs, no problems. They are in very good condition."
and this is what I got.....

This is obviously more than just a misunderstanding of description!

After seeing the Pics, I can see where you would be disappointed. Looks like junk to me. Did you try contacting Ryan? I think they ban people for fraud, not sure. post the solution if one is obtained. Please don't judge the HAMB on one sleezeball seller, seems to be a lot of good guys here. JOHN

The HAMB is fantastic, I did notify Ryan and he jumped right on the issue. I hope we have a resolution soon. I think as a rule most guys in the hotrod, muscle car, classic car world are genuine, honest hardworking people, but every once in a while we all run across someone like this who is out to take advantage of any situation.
