Hi all, I am in the process of acquiring a 1949 chevy deluxe from my uncle. Never had the opportunity of owning a cl***ic of this era so I am siked! The car is complete and almost rust free. The sale price is $1200 so I can't be too slow on getting it out the brushes. Some of the projects on this forum are so inspirational. Hopefully this won't turn into a long project and to my uncle's knowledge the car will need minimuim work to get back road worthy. All in all once this deal is done I will start my resto thread. My first job is to upgrade to p.s. then go thru the engine to brakes to interior. Last thing is to wash the body down with CLR and roll out. Look for me in the new year to start on my first antique!
Welcome from Maryland, good luck with your new project. I have a 50 Chevy that I had for 20 years and still love it.
well still in the negotiating phases so whenever money exchanges hand I will start a build thread. now i'm researching the basic parts needed to get it road worthy. torn between rebuid of front suspension or trying to add power steering. auto ****** or stay with the 3 on the tree. not going the full resto or resto-mod but leaning more towards getting it cheap, get it up to driving standards then just roll the hell out of it!! Already have a line on a gas tank from a member near me! cheap!
hey hey welcome to the hamb...ryan is a wonderful man..he has created a great opportunity for all of us to share....
Price not dropping. Doing research on the 216 and its not looking good. Not looking to swap engines but everyone has nothing but bad words about this one. Was thinking jag front with s10 rear but the 216 killing my vibe. Not sure if I even should do anything but drive it original.
I may have the Jaguar front end available from my 50. It's been modified for bags. I'm looking at removing my air ride. Alex
The 216 is a splash lubrication oiling system. If you are going to keep it a six look for a mid 50's onwards 235.
Didn't want to do an engine swap. Looks like it will be easier to go 350/350 combo vs. finding a 235 and powerglide ******. Actually LS1 is even more plentiful here in Houston at a decent price range. Choices means more work.......maybe look for a different project??
under the hood is looking HRRIBLE!!! Moved to the front floor and here goes more RUST! Touched the knobs and they turned to dust...... Man I didn't sign up for this. Anyone ever use these before??? https://www.streetrodhq.com/detail/19285/Polished_Machined_Aluminum_Dash_Knob_14_Hole.html
