Anybody roll with bare metal steel wheels? Saw some on a bare metal Model A coupe once. I really liked the look. Looked as if they were sand blasted and then gone over with steel wool or maybe a real fine sand paper.

personally; I never got the "bare metal" thing.... rust happens too quickly on painted steel; imagine what having to leave the car unattended for a couple of months would result in.

If you want to rub gibbs oil on your wheels, go ahead. Matte clear them, it won't hold up forever either.
That paint stuff works pretty good too.

Yea theres no doubt I'm gonna have to give them a daily bath of WD40. Was just curious if anyone else has done it. After a search I found the coupe I was talking about. "Wade Coupe" by Bass Kustoms

For mine I treated with a black steel patina, rinsed off.. Then sit them in the sun, after they
Get nice and warm I rubbed them down with a few layers of butchers wax ... Let the wax cool down and buff out.. If ya don't like the patina look than just use the butchers wax.. You may have to reapply from time to time...did mine a couple of years ago, so far they are holding up great... But then again I live in SoCal , and don't take my truck out in the rain too often-

Looking at the wheels on the Bass coupe, I don't think that's bare metal. They look like rattle can cast-iron color paint. They look good, but I don't think they're bare metal.

Check out "Gibbs" for protecting bare metal...its sold right here on the hamb

  10. Seems I remember Mr. Bass mentioning that he wipes his car down with Gibbs.

  11. I don't "get" it either. Why in the world would you want to run a car with unprotected sheet metal on any part? Seems like a never ending battle to avoid rust when its easily solved by painting it.

At the blacksmith shop we use Bees Wax or a coat to finish out patina or bare steel. You can paint the insides so they won't rust. I like the look of raw steel. A LOT of people do. That's why stainless things exist.

  15. I like the looks of a bare metal wheel. Could you have them powder coated with a clear after sand blasting?
