I am looking for what folks have done to there advance design chevy trucks to accommodate the longer inline 6 series engines. I have a 250 and despite it being at the firewall I have no clearance for the stock puller fan set up for my cooling.

So obviously there are options, smaller radiator and moving it forward, pusher fans etc. but Id like to know what people actually did and how its working for them. Thanks

I put a big block chevy in an AD truck. I cut/removed the x braces in front of the radiator. I notched the upper valence to allow the radiator to move forward about 1 1/2 inches. It looked clean when finished and gave me the room I needed for my mechanical fan. I wouldn't think that your later model inline would be any longer than the big block. I don't have any electronic pictures. Good luck.

The GMC engines were longer than the 216 engines in the chevys- GM moved the radiator
forward to make room. I believe they used a different latch panel and the radiator crossmember was different, but many have modified the chevy items.

I moved the radiator forward, It sits inside the "U" channel of the core support. I bolted it in front of the farthest most edge of this "U" channel. I was running a 292. Minor mods where needed as far as t******* the lower valance and the core support for the lower hose

Junkbike, I just sat down to post what I did and saw your post. I too opened up the "U" notched the lower corners of the radiator braces and it fits perfectly and looks like it was meant to be there. Thanks all for the replies.

On mine I shortened the shaft on the waterpump enough to use a shorter V8 pulley.

I took the pump off, figured out the difference between the 250b Pulley and the V8 pulley and pressed the hub doiwn on the shaft of the pump so that the V8 pulley's groove would end up the same spot as the six cylinder pulley was so the belts line up.

Total cost was an hours time and a new water pump gasket. I had to run a ****py little flex fan that doesn't pull enough air to write home about.
No radiator in it and lots of dirt and grease but this should give you some idea of what the difference is.

That was the only fan that would fit that was available when I was putting it together in a big hurry in 1979 and no it does not pull much air at an idle.

Mr48chev, Thanks, I am now moving on to the transmission mount. Opening up the u brace and setting it inside really worked nice and allowed me to run factory pump and fan. Sure like your idea too.
