found a running '53 GMC stepside at my fav junkyard but there are some probs with the ***le and i was wondering what i have to do to get a new one. the junkyard bought it from a storage default sale but they only got the paperwork regarding the public listing and such that the storage place had to do before they could sell it...no ***le. my guy at the junkyard said that he tried to get a ***le for it to sell it to another guy and when they went to the storage place the new manager wouldn't touch it because he bought it from the previous guy so the sale fell through and now it's there tempting me but i want to find out how to get the ***le before i work a deal on it. what do i need to do to get that? apply for lost ***le with a bill of sale, remove the VIN tag and get a new one and get ***le that way or what? help me out here...anybody who's had to do that before if you could explain the process and what i need to ask for when i go to the DMV so that i can buy this truck and get it on the road i'd appreciate it. thanks in advance.

I bought my panel truck similarly to how you would be getting this truck. I just went down to the DMV, in Logan Utah in Cache Valley, and asked for the proper paper work after having explained the situation to them. Just be honest, Utah don't take kindly to messing with Vin tags and such. Being as it is so old they will probably do a half-*** vin/serial number search on it and then send you on your way. They will also want a saftey inspection on it. Then just pay your fees and you are good to go.... that is unless they actually find something on with the vin/serial number search. Good luck.

PS: I just though of something, I haven't don it myself but I've heard of people paying to have the state vin/serial search and then if all is clear buying it. Try that too if you are still looking at this truck.
