I had to work saturday, it was bad enough to have to go in, but then work 12 hours... it ****ed. That pretty much wasted that day. Sunday, I moved some stuff in the garage, to make it winter-work-ready. All in all, not much got done, but who cares?

  2. Started to put in an electrical box (subpanel) on the garage since the power in the garage was hooked up with an overhead wire to the house to a 15-amp fuse. I kept blowing the fuse if I was running my air compressor at night time with the lights on. So... **** that.

We dug a trench in the ground and...

PROMPTLY HIT A ****ING GAS LINE!!!!   (too bad they don't have an icon here where I **** my pants)

Needless to say I nearly **** my pants, as PG&E had told me the line was like 6 feet away from where I was digging. On top of that, this gas line was only 6" underground?!!!  Supposed to be 18" or more.

So... Saturday was pretty eventful, keeping the fire department and PG&E on their toes. Normally it's an easy fix but naturally I had to get it where they had to dig some more and break up part of my driveway. They asked what I was doing and I told them "Starting a BBQ". They laughed... a little...

Funny... after the Roseville fire department and PG&E finished, Brian (my contractor) and I decided to go have lunch to get away from all that. Went to Chipotle's and then on our way out my eyeballs immediately picked up a searing yellow 1959 2-door Bel Air and naturally I had to gravitate over there and check it out. I could see that it needed a few things and was talking to Brian and then the owner shows up. I told him I specialize in 1959 and 1960 Chevrolets and that if he needed anything he could get ahold of me and he goes "Hey!! I know you!! You're from the HAMB... uhhh... uhhh... Travis!" No ****. Viva la HAMB. The dude is "Lucky" here... so... Nice to meet you!! bet you had NO idea what we just went through that morning!! hahahaha

So got all that fixed and then we were able to finish it up on Sunday. Now I have a nice sub panel that's setup for 220 and 110 and nothing is going to blow up anymore (I hope.)

Onwards and upwards... 2 more weeks before my house is done...

not a damn thing. I surfed my *** off and then when I got home, I was taken advantage of in my weakened state by a female.....

  4. Filled the hot tub for the winter season. Put a new light fixture in the ba*****t. Bought a 40oz. bottle of whiskey for a guy who gave me a good lead on a design contract, delivered it, and shared a drink with him.(thats standard "finders fee" for any lead that gets me a few weeks contract work).
no no no----not dresses damn it----machines.

Well let see here. My mom came in town from Austin to take me to dinner for my B-Day and got me a new drill press. Got up Saturday and took the family to have pictures made for Christmas and then met pops (Dirty2) and little Sis to go pick up a 33 Ford truck from Dragracr50. Drove 3 1/2 hours there and ended up coming home with a empty trailer, missed getting back in time for the date my wife had made for me and her, (which did not go over to well especially since the trailer was empty). Got up early Sunday do a side job and put in a new electrical service. After making three trips to home depot I finally got started on it and finished rite before sundown. Man was I tired. Went and picked up the family by 6 and headed to Olive Garden to splurge alittle. Got home around 9 and hit the sack. Oh car related my pops took the 9" to get narrowed today. Wow what a weekend!!!!

Went to the Amish saw mill, and got a pick up load of cut off side pieces from logs, then used them on the ceiling in my garage, to cover the seams in the fiberboard.:D As weird as it sounds, it actually looks cool, and only cost $5 a pick up load!

Nice pics....I love gr*** lawn driveways....:) reminds me of living back in the midwest...you can't park on a your lawn in residential out here in CA. or so I have been told....cause your car is a "threatened release" of oil, gas, coolant, etc. and it could hurt the environment....lol

  8. i have a present for you: (800).227.2600 it's the phone number for USA North...go ahead and call 'em it'll do ya some good (i am sure you did though)

another is Cruz bros., they are underground utility locators: (877).728.2789 i use them all the time to locate stuff that is close to my excavations, they are very helpful and really accurate.

funny story though, i was out doing a site walk with a couple of cats from SBC, cause we were pulling a 7k Diesel UST from a SBC building, turns out that the main fiber optic trunk that runs from Sac to LA ran about 6' from the end of the tank pit i was about dig. To repair it if i had knicked it was a million dollars an hour! that is the number 1 with 6 zeros after it an hour.

some poor contractor had severed a little one a couple of miles from where i was and it cost him 50,000 an hour to repair it (put him out of business).

  9. dude, you live closer to more refineries than probably anyone else on the HAMB... (i think you have 3 in less than 5 miles) and 2 in less than a mile...hell shell has been leakin there for damn near 90 years! and i think tesoro (the old UDS Avon Golden Eagle Diamond Shamrock facility) has been there about the same amount of time...

and they are concerned that you may kill some weeds w/ some high metals used motor oil?

i braved the chilly weather and went out to the chevy (coughing with a runny nose all the way) and used some newspaper and cardboard for templates and made up some foamboard panels for my trunk..i'd already gotten a carpet for it once but it didnt go DEEP enough, plus i need to cover the rear inside fender humps anyways,so another roll will be $12 well spent.all i need to do after that is get some vinyl and get to stapling it on the trunk panels and finish making the trunk look somewhat LESS of a mess..my latest kustom venture was actually a Martha Stewart product  it's a little metal powdercoated white basket that's meant to fit under the counter but JUST happens to be big enough to hold my kustom fluids jugs (trans, brake, coolant and oil, all of which are in old antifreeze jugs) i've just gotta find a way to secure it...i never realized i had so much **** in my trunk until now!! a full size spare,a bumper jack,a gas jug, 4 fluid jugs, a 4 way,the bumper jack handle/tire iron, jumper cables, first aid kit,bag of wrags, wrenches,a flashlight, AND a cooler! hopefully i dont ever end up needing trunk space for something...

Turned a carb rebuild into a valve job in the blink of an eye...actually, the **** of a lock washer. Worst part is, got the washer out, but sacrificed the tip of the magnet in doing so. Funny part is, 5/16 lock washers were not part of the carb rebuild, nor the R&R. Oh, well, cylinder head only had a thousand or so miles on it.

Not nearly enough. I got the rest of the trim off, which proved to be a more time consuming task than I had hoped (rusty screws are a ***** sometimes). I also spent a little too much time organizing my parts.

Not the most productive weekend, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Yeah that is what the PG&E guy said. He mentioned USA and gave me their number. He also said "Even though the other PG&E guy said the gas line was over here, none of us are qualified to do that type of thing." ****ing cute. So I think this is all the digging we are doing until next year anyway but I'll certainly be calling USA next time.

and I sure as hell hope we don't have any fiberoptic **** around here!!!!

Come Saturday she was better, but still not 100%- went home Sat night, had to cancel her bday party we were throwing on Sunday.

All in all a ****ed weekend. She's getting back on track now though.

Damn indeed! My wife tried to do that very same thing this weekend, but didn't get the job done. Only got six s***ches in one and three in the one next to it.

  21. well now to add the kicker to it. when you call USA (as required when ever you are about to start digging with equipment.) USA needs to be called 48 hours before you start excavation, your excavation needs to be deliniated in white paint. USA will notify everyone who has underground utilities in your area (they will give you the list) they will all call you and tell you whether or not your activities will come in conflict with thier equipment.

now the kicker...they will not come on private property (officially). that is where guys like Cruz bros. come in play.

also USA is only accurate to 24" on either side of the underground utility (48" total) so even if it is marked, it doesn't mean it is accurate.

    good luck.

What did I get done this weekend? 1500 + miles on a motorcycle.

Here's my post on the Jockey Journal:

My buddy has been riding across the US and Canada for the past 5 months, and was heading back home to the Bay Area. I told him I would meet him and ride the last couple days. He was covering about 100 - 150 scenic miles per day, so I gave myself 5 days to meet him in Flagstaff, AZ. and ride back.

I left Oakland on Saturday morning at 8 am- 186 miles to Selma, g***ed up. 185 more miles gased up. Then 150. By nightfall I found myself in Kingman, AZ. The wind was howling and it was cold. How many more miles to Flaggstaff? Ouch. Temp was dropping fast too. I went to Walmart and bought some thermal underpants, g***ed up and hit it. Temps were down to the 30's by the time a had dinner at the Copper Cart in Seligman. I made it to Flagstaff by 9 pm. 750 miles one way, one day. (Mind you this is on a Moto Guzzi V-11 Sport with re****ts, sport suspension, and low bars. My only luggage was a tankbag with rainpants and some clothing.)

The next morning we got up ( I don't know how), had coffee at the Late Train cafe in downtown, and hit the road- Destin to see how far we could get. Made all the way back to Fresno (about 500 miles) where my body told me to get some sleep or else!
This morning we got up and rode the remaining 260 some miles home by 2 pm. WOW!

It was fun, but I'm going to take my time on the next trip!!

It was the tail of my 3-day "functional vacation" (too broke for a vacation, but getting stuff done). We rubbed out some faulty bodywork o' mine on the '57 Effie, started smoothing things out from the roof to mid-door. She looks really different, more at***ude to her (especially since we took off the front hood to re-work it). Sprayed on some Satin Black Rust-Stop from Ace, really made a difference. Got the on-dash turn-key ignition unit replaced (lost the key during the Move, had to hotwire it around). Now that it's a runner, got to be the Driver for a Pandragger party about-town, Saturday. Hey, for all the help I've been getting, it's the least I could do.
Need to check the alternator, though- the battery keeps getting ****ed dry out of nowhere. Heading back to Arcata after a Eureka bar-hop, pit-stopped for gas and almost had to pit stop 'er for the night: drained battery out of nowhere. A generous guy with a 70-something Ford pickmeup, after trying to charge us up, let us have a big, spare battery he had on me, on a pay-me-when-you-can basis. Score!! Just need get 'er tightened up and more road-sturdy. That didn't stop me from stompin' on it, as we were heading up the peninsula to Arcata...
