O/T lost my lil' buddy(one for pet owners).

first off sorry ryan for taking up space. just having a bad day due to it. ok lost my big fat tabby cat last night to diabeties. i know some guys don't care for cats much, but he was one cool cat. always beat the dog to the door to greet me when i got home hung out at my feet and was just generally a great companion. the wife and i are big animal lovers and he was one of three cats and we have a dog. this little fella had more personality than most people i have meet in life. he was diagnosed back in nov. and it has been a fight trying to regulate his diabeties since. sundat things took a turn for the worst and we took him to the animal e.r. they admitted him immediatly and monitored him through the night. found that his kidneys were failing and started him on more iv fluids to try and get him back up. we went to visit last night about 5. he couldn't even raise his head or open his eyes. messed me up bad. this little guy who has meet me at the door the minute i got home forever couldn't even respond to us. we spent til about 6:30 trying to decide if it would be better to put him to sleep since they were giving him less than 30 percent chances. well we decided to give it one more day to see if he responded to the new iv regaudless of cost(close to a grand since his diagnosis). well we got home at about 7 and the phone range the minute we walked in the door. he had just stopped breathing. we told them to put him to sleep instead of trying cpr. i guess he had just held on through the day to see us again. man this is sure gonna leave an empty spot for a rrrreeeaalllyyy long time. sorry just needed to put it out in the open for myself...ken....

It just shows that it is the little things in life that matter. My dog races every night to the bed and lays down on my pillow before I can get in there(little F*&K). But I would miss the little sH*t if he were gone. Hang in there. We feel your pain. [ QUOTE ]

I know what you are feeling. I lost one of our cats the other day, we had four and three dogs as well. Of course this cat was my favorite one of the cats, I generally like dogs better. It must have got hit by a car and when the neighbor told us it was in their back yard Sat morning, we rushed to get it, still alive and definitely suffering, wrapped it in a towel. While driving to the vet it had a huge seizure and died in my wife's arms.

That cat was always up with me in the morning trying to get me to give it a treat when I make my lunch, it loved cheese and people food in general. Just not the same this week when I get up for work. The cat had the most personality of any of the cats and was definitely much cooler than an average cat.

 

The good memories are the things that last...the more people I meet the more I like my dog - it's true.

thanks everyone for the kind words. it's actually taking a greater toll on my wife oddly enough at 31 she has never had anyone or anything really close to her die. she broke down bad last night when we got the news. seems to be doing a little better today. just gonna be hard.

38, it's funny you say that. sher kan was a freak for poultry. he wouldn't give a **** about much other people food. break out chicken or turkey and you got the blue eye treatment something no one could resist. he had bright blue eyes and would just sit calmly and squint at you. my night last night was all ****ed because he usually hangs out on the couch with me up late watching tv. man it was lonley there last night and again this morning before work.

i have to say we have some of the coolest animals, but he was surely a ruler a**** cats.

Unless you are an animal person you will never understand what it is like to loose one of the little critters. We've lost a few in the last 40 years and everyone makes you hurt. They have their own personalities and they become members of the family in very short order. I"m not saying its exactly like loosing a human family member but it sure leaves a hole in your heart when they go.

Our condolences as well. Lost Heidi one of our schnauzers this summer. Life kind of ****ed that day at the Gordon house. She was 18+ years old but it still isn't easy. Two legged or four, it's tough to lose a friend.

I feel were you are coming from. I also lost my pet this week. My dog boulder. he was 14 years old and had a bad stroke. Sorry to hear about your pet. Nate

 

We have 4 Cats and 2 Dogs, they are family...
I know how hard it is to lose one.

It hurts bad if your best buddy p***es away, I can really feel with you. Last year just about the same time our old dog Jerry had his last trip to dog heaven. We had him over 10 years.

But finally we still have his son Flash here and he's always ready for some neighborhood action.....

 

very sorry to hear of your loss , sometimes you have to be a pet lover to understand , kind of like loving cars , outsiders just don't get it sometimes , My dog chopper was hit by a truck and killed at the Billetproof car show a little over a year ago , and I still miss him every day. Pets truly do become a member of the family . And losing family is allways tough. Hang in there , spend time with your family and friends and I hope that you still have a happy Holiday .

 

I know how you must feel. I too have a big that greets me at the door every day and once in a while hangs out in the shop with me. He too was diagnosed earlier this year with diabetes. Have to give him injections twice a day which seems to be working OK so far. Sure will miss him when his time comes.

We used to have six dogs at one time, when we lived in the Philippines. All street ****rels, mixed bunch of f*ck ups, but they were family. Had to put one down once, about two years ago, canine distemper, had me blubbering like a baby. Still chokes me up now when I think of the poor little ******, Fozzy, in agony for days after a bum diagnosis by one local vet. Then we got another vet in and he diagnosed it correctly immediately and said it was best to finish him quick, as there is no cure at that stage.

Damn, dude...that ****s. I don't look forward to the day when I find one of ours. I know the kids will be crushed (not to mention the wife).

Now we've got her in a nice little wooden earn on the mantle. Don't know what I'd have done without my cat Thunder hanging out with me at night (if HE feels like it, of course). Sorry to hear that. I've got 2 cats and a dog, and they can be a pain in the *** sometimes, but I love them all. BTW, Hellfish had to put is dog to sleep on Sunday morning...

 

Man, that ****s. We had to put my dog down a few years ago. Was my best friend since I was about 6.... No good.

Losing a friend really ****s. And, sometimes I think it ****s even more when it is a critter. They comfort us and wag there tails at us and generally don't care if their day has been bad, they are always happy to see us. Not too many human friends react the same way every freakin' day of their lives. It's been over ayear now since our Rotty got sick and we had to make the make the most dreaded decision a dog lover ever has to face. It was just the most horrible day as we were nearly 3000 miles away! I cried like a baby and I'm nearly blubbering again just thinking about him. But, I wouldn't change a day I spent with him and all his silly little antics. He gave us over ten years of wonderful unquestioned love and, I think we gave it right back. God, I miss him. I don't think we ever get over any of our pets. Probably, because there is no reason to! My heartfelt feelings go out to you and your wife.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It looks like this has been a rough month for pets.

My next door neighbor told me that on Dec. 7, a large dog from up the street had gotten unchained, and was chasing my favorite cat around my yard. My cat got under one of the cars, and I don't think the dog ever got her, but she hasn't been seen since then. I've had her for over 13 years, and I'm pretty tore up about it. I have one other cat, a stray I took in about 3 years ago, but he doesn't have half the personality of my old one.

Sorry to hear about your friend, Lucky. Losing a pet IS losing a member of your family. It's amazing how attached you can get to them.

I know what you mean about alot of guys not liking kats, but I'm a kat guy, too. I've had my kitty for going on 13 years. Salome has always been a great companion. Every night she lays beside my computer chair while I plink around on the computer until my girlfriend goes to bed. Then she's off to her little couch in the bedroom to go "me-me's". I swear she thinks she's a dog! How many kats do you know that will come to you when you whistle? She does!

Take comfort in the fact that your friend is not suffering anymore. We've all been there and know how you feel. Hang in there buddy, it will get better.

 

So sorry to hear about your loss. I too enjoy a pet more than a person a good portion of the time. They always seem to understand, and their unconditional love is something you rarely find in a human being. Thankfully when my first dog had to be put to sleep (husky coyote mix, 14 years old) I was moved away and married, and I didn't have to see her suffer. My parents still talk about her like she's still there, and it's been over a year. It's been 6 years since I had to put my best friend ever, my horse, to sleep, and I still think about her every day. I fear the day I have to put our dog Nitro to sleep, hopefully it is from old age when it happens. They're put on this earth for just a short time, and it is our job to take care of them and enjoy them while they're here. Animals are AMAZING creatures.

 

Sorry man, thats a bummer they sure become part of your life.
