I'm running dual roch. single throat carbs on my 261 right now. The other day I stumbled across a company (Transdapt, I think) that sells adapters to put either a Stromberg-style carb, or a little roch 2-jet onto a 1bbl mount. I know a guy that claimed he put a single 2-jet on a 235 and got better miliage with it. My question is, has anyone tried running two 2-jet carbs on a chevy 6? The 2X1 setup is working ok, I've got most of the bugs out of it, but I get tired of having fuel seeping out of the damn things. And I've got a pile of good 2-jets.
Well I'll be running a Holley-Weber 2 barrell on my 235. Rochesters leak, period. The 2 barrell in theory should be better milage, as long as your not a lead foot.
Carter-Weber 2bbls. **** canned the leak-o-matic Rochesters, and picked up 2 MPG and all kinds of throttle response.-MIKE
If you want the Hoo-Doo on H/W 2bbl convert and are into Stovebolt's, check out Langdon's Stovebolt Engine Parts. He sells a 2bbl adapter and H/W rebuilds very reasonably. He also has an HEI distributor, exh&intakes and some other cool stuff I've not seen elsewhere. He sells a stovebolt thermostat spacer with outlet for int. manifold water heating when using headers . Best of all he answers the phone and talks to you if you call for info!. http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/index1.htm Powerband
Hey, thanks for the info. I've bought some parts from Langdon's before, but I haven't checked out the site in a while. So, is that water heated intake idea all that it's cracked up to be? What's the big benefit? I would ***ume that it would help on cold starts, but I don't drive the 54 in the winter anyways.
Wrenchbender, you gotta get those carbs for your Chev. Get them from Langdon's. I put a single one on my 54 and she runs like a striped ape! I also have tubular headers and straight pipes. Did the carb last, and she really runs strong. I also have some very tall rubber on the rear to offset the gearing. I get 20 at 65-70 on the highway. I think I paid $115 for mine this Spring. If it cost $300 would still be the best money I ever spent on an old chev. Sad thing, is, I've had 8 of those old Chevs over the years, and just did this swap. A guy tipped me off at a show, told me that I'd never regret it, boy was he right! Good luck!
I got mine from Stovebolt, they came on the 83 ******s. Water heat, I'm starting to think it needs to be done. I live in Fl. and thought a hot climate was enough. Car bogs out of the hole and after playing with everything else I,m thinking lack of heated intake is the problem
Chopped, I'm running a 235 with dual Rochesters on a Nicson intake and I live in Florida. I had the same problem and I bought a heat riser off ebay and it works great now.
