    Hey,

Can anyone advise?......Did Ford of England build a 3-window ModelY?
I'm told that they were available in Australia, with a V8/60? These bad
littl' ******s looked like a 3/4 sized '33-'34 full sized Ford.

And...I know that I've seen Ford Model CX 5-windows (the 70's weren't that
good ta me) at some time. Did these have V8/60s in um' These looked like
3/4 sized '35 Fords. Probably built fer a relation of Lil' Mike 's
    originally.

    Thanx,

Yes there was a model 'Y'. My ex-boss had a restored one. Till one day a **** or woodchuck got into the interior. Looked like a grenade had gone off!! Stuffing and material everywhere. :D

731 Model Y ch***is were exported to Australia in 33-34, of these 33 were bodied (in Australia) as coupes in '34 & 15 in '35. Three coupes are known to still exist in Australia, the engine was the 8-H.P. 4 cylinder (22 b.h.p @ 3500rpm).

The design of the Model Y actualy pre-dates the 33-34 Ford, the design was by Eugene Gregorie and Edsel Ford had it scaled up to fit the model 40's 112" wheelbase.

Gibbon Fibergl*** does a 3" chopped Model Y sedan and coupe. Rootlieb hood, Progressive ch***is, and repro bumpers that a lot of folks buy for their trailers. But they don't advertise them and wait for ten orders so I'm not sure they've done over a couple runs. They are small, 93" wheelbase.

Seeing is believing, and I haven't seen or heard of one, not that I'm so well versed in the Engish side of things. Anything's possible I suppose. Can't believe the V8 60 bit though. I love the ***umption that all the odd ball critters come from Australia. Some actually do, but more than one unscrupulous American has tried to p*** off a piece of home made **** as "a rare Australian model" eg a 36 coupe with 37 front sheet metal in street rodder a coupe of years ago.

Please correct me if im wrong, but from what ive seen and heard, Australia got the smaller versions of cars, like england and other small european countries where size is a major issue. Isnt australia a pretty big place? can someone explain thier minute automobiles, or am i talking out of my *** as usual?

I've seen Model Y coupes, sedans, and roadsters. I just did a search and found a van. They came with an 8 HP 4 cyl. Not a lot of room for more. Engine compartment is 24" long x 27" high x 34" at firewall. I got half a BBF in one, but had to move the firewall back a foot or so. I also took two more out of height by cutting crown out so driver's compartment got really tight. With two 18" fibergl*** buckets, I had to cut pockets in doors so they would shut. Hopefully I'll do an intro in a month or so. You always want to get it together more before taking pics and I am the definition of slow.

The English Model-Y was originally built as the Tudor sedan only (and yes, pre-dates the Model 40 - originally sold for '32 model year). However, Ford of Germany produced some coupes and roadsters on a coach-built basis. There's a good book on Model-Ys out there - I have it - I'll dig it out & post more.

To my knowledge, neither the Y or the C/CX came with the V8-60, however, they look to be a perfect fit - a 3/4-scale flatty for a 3/4-scale Model 40!

I bought a beautifully restored Model-Y back in July & am still waiting for delivery - the DVLA (UK DMV) is giving the seller a bit of h***le...

Other than the grille, I don't think the C or CX look very much like a '35 Ford myself...

In the old days we were a "compulsory" export market for the British due to our "empire" connection, so we got a fair bit of their product and many folks like sto support the "old country."

The cars we built ourselves were the American ones. Except we also built ute versions which you guys didn't do until the rancheros etc . Due to market size, not land m*** size, we had more limited model range though, eg 5 window 36 coupes, but no 3 windows, 4 door sedans but not 2 doors.

Hope that helps a little, but I'm no historian.

I'm not touchin' that. I'll stick to fibs about cars. Here's another NOT Australian car that was brought to my attention recently.
