I recently purchased a 1930-31 cowling and im looking to fabricate a cab using it and possibly three doors. My first question is , do the 1930-31 doors differ from model to model? I dont plan on a roof so can I use any doors? Does any one have any ideas about an easier way? Id like to end up with something resembling a roadster pick-up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You could have a coupe cowl or a sedan, pickup cowl. And yes the doors are different. Coupe doors are a little shorter than sedan, pickup doors that are the same. Mike

4 door doors are not the same as coupe doors.

The body lines at the tops of the doors are different....There are several pairs of doors listed on e-bay right now.....Check those out and see what matches with what you have....

If I where to make the framework of a cab, out of steel tubing would it make more sense to buy doorskins and tack them on it? If so , any ideas who has sheet metal model a skins, or is this a stupid idea?

Door skins; brookville, synders, brattons, to mention a few. A few guys here have posts about making their own doors using skins and making an inner door panel out of tubing. Alot depends on your skills and the look you are going after. Also whether you want functional doors or a "paneled" look" (seamless). I think Ed Ducazua's classic 29' rpu on a 32' frame was done this way. Even though its a different body style as to the year, the treatment would be pretty much the same.

Hi guys! This is my first reply on this forum. I have been collecting parts for my '30 A rpu. The doors for a roadster and rpu are the same. I happen to have collected 2 new Brookville right hand doors and a new left skin. If you are interested in purchasing one or the other please let me know. I hope I didnt get anybody angry with my offer.

  9. If you take the back set off a 4-door, you can cut the front section off of them (cut off the wheel relief) to make the cab sides, behind the doors.

I may be wrong but I thought that the cowls were all the same except for ford or murry made cowls. Murry being the ones that is like a one peice item but instead of the gas tank droping in from the top like the ford made ones did
it was incerted from below. I think that the doors line up and hinges are exactly the same in 30/31 the only difference i was aware of was the length of the door and you are correct the coupe doors are shorter than the sedan and pickup doors let me know now im interested to find out im too working on a 28/29 roadster pickup.

Hey , Not pissed at all! thanks for your input I would be interested with any door related leftovers that you dont need. Im new too, but couldnt see why anyone would mind. How far are you on your project? Id like to here your plans. Im just collecting parts right now. Im figuring on starting my truck in the spring and I basically have nothing but a cowl. I figuiring on a straight axle front with a traditional single sprung rear. I hear that late forty drum brakes are the way to go. as for drive train Im thinking problably pontiac or any non small block. any way gotta run :D laterr
