When I did mine I used napa 641-1145 studs, they fit like they are made for the conversion. I used a Rels brake lathe to cut both the drum and hub. I was using the ford 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern, so after the hub fit the drum I just used those holes as a guide in the drill press. I also bolted the hub to the drum but that was probably not required. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=64647
Yep... used the on the rear of my roadster too- 57 olds rear with 12" 56 pontiac? shit... maybe they're olds backing plates I would have to ask eardy as I got them from him at 3am as he was going through rear ends trying to find the same mateing surface as the rear... they need a small spacer and thats it. I thought they were poncho cuzz it had all three- olds buick and pontiac in the mix. Tuck
I want to see the ford banjo rear hub put into a set of buick drums. Now that I did the front I want to do the rear. I have more finned drums, I think I have some stock ford rear drums ('47 type)
I guess it all depends on how your building your car- I'm sticking strictly to a "snapshot in time" period 60's car. I think Buick drums look funny on an early styled car, as the Buick drums didnt come out until the early sixties. Seems to me putting Buick drums on a banjo rear would be backwards- as the 57 olds rear was a far superior rear to use at the time... it was the predecessor to the ford 9" and the rear they used on the strip behind most competition diggers- It also has the same bolt pattern as the Buick drums so you dont have to re-drill your axle.
