Sheltie/miniature Collie for my mom for Xmas. Anyone know of a good one near the San Fernando Valley/Los Angeles????
Too far away for me.........but I can BTTT ....for Groucho's mom.. My wife and I had our little dog die Oct 3 2005......She was 14 years old.......and we have a new one coming ....it was 2 weeks old this past Saturday......My wife is excited and we will get the puppy when it is 6 weeks ago.....the day before Christmas... She is another Miniture Schnazuer....... I suggest doing a search on the internet.......lots of breeders list their kennels on the net now.....ours is a AKC registered but we found her thru our vet. ...which is another good way to find good healthy puppies.........the Vets know who takes care of their dogs and who just has a 'puppy farm'
Got to the American Shetland Sheepdog ***ociation's website at: http://www.***a.org/ They have a ***A approved breeder network section. There are a few breeders in CA you can email. Dont take this the wrong way as this may not apply to you, but a lot of professional breeders are weary of 'Christmas Shoppers'. A pro will conduct a THOROUGH' interview of prospective buyers...
also, look for rescue dogs. alot of the time they are great dogs i need of a home, but with out the price tag. try searching for Sheltie rescue...
PetFinders.com Pretty much just type in what your lookin for and your zip code and itll find several in your area.
Strange coincidence. I met a lady yesterday in the Home Depo parking lot in Indio. She was trying to give me her late husband's Pug. She works there in the interiors dept. I think her name was Judy or June. The dog needs a home. I think she said it was 5 or 6. Pugs aren't Collies, for sure. But there're great companions. (I have two and they were with me yesterday, which is why this lady was trying to give me her Pug).
Has she had a sheltie before? I had one for a long time. Super smart, great dog. I'll ask a friend I have in San DIego, his mom has some. She might know a breeder.
BTT But please do look to adopt a rescue form breeders or wherever you can. I will show you why. I have been through a ton recently and this deal is what I come home to. I feel pretty damned lucky some days and this is one. We lost our old Rottweiler a few years back to cancer and were on the lookout for a stand in. You can never replace a good dog. The next one will only be a stand in for the previous until a new place for the next is opened in your home and heart. A freind called me with this story while I was on the road: Newspaper article 7 year old female Rott, 40 lbs, starving, bad rope burns and serious wounds to her neck, beaten, worms...It gets much worse so I'll save you all the rest of it. After two weeks no one had called about her except for me. Whoever had this dog before me deserves no mercy. As was said in The Green Mile "May God have mercy on your soul". I just hope for my sake that we never cross paths or I think I will be like Jules in Pulp Fiction. She came over last Friday to see if she will fit in with the BigMan "Boss". Well she's been here ever since. Suffice to say she will stay and she has her spot in my office and in the bed. This dog has no fear of people and is one of the sweetest Rott's we have ever had and the others were very great dogs. Why this dog trusts anyone or anything is beyond me. She is only about two maybe no where near seven as everybody thought and has had a bunch of litters. Puppy mill dog? We don't know but can only ***ume. Look at the pics and you will see. This one will cost me a bunch of money. But she has training, house broke to a fault, likes to ride in loud cars and pick up trucks and all she wants is just some love and respect. Sorry to hijack the thread but please do consider a look at the rescues from the breeders (search your state for the ***ociation for the breed you want) and the shelters.
Yes, she's had a few. A few years ago she lost 2 within about a year of eachother (one-old age, the other some fluid around the lungs). She was devastated. She's since rescued a couple of GREAT dogs, but never replaced the Shelties. I'd love to do that for her. She's retired, and is home to tend to the dogs all day. Cooks fresh food and bakes for them. When i die, i want to come back as a dog in my moms house!
they're great dogs but don't get one from a pet store or puppy farm.......they can get a little crazy. really.... save a dog at the shelter. we lost ours this year, she was 14.
