I know is kinda anti hotrod but whats the laws like to have an old cop car? A freind and me are turning my '61 Biscayne into a shine runner but a cop car would be way cooler. I have a siren and can get a light but do I have to leave them unhooked? Any input would be great thanks. -Jesse
Ok...I know this may vary state to state...but if you have a light on the roof make sure the lense is clear...it can't be red. It will still look ok since many cop cars had a clear lense and colored bulbs. We used to tool around in a 77 Plymouth "cop" car with two bubble gum machines on top. It was hillarious. We brought it to the first Orlando Rumblers show....I wish we had a picture of that car...it was so great.... Months later our b*** player wrecked it. a sad day indeed. Tim MBL
I don't know the exact rules in MO we used to run 'em with gum ball machines out in the sticks and sirens was cool too. I don't think I'd do it around here anymore. Too many criminals stealing cop stuff. Probably should be able to get on the CA DOT site and find out.
I seen a nice '50 Ford awhile back and then a mid '60s Plymouth CHP interceptor, both had red lenses but the MoPar was owned by a cop. Anyone else? -Jesse
I would love to have this Police car........ from 1932........ This 5W coupe was going to Lexington Kentucky Police Department.
You may need to cover the markings and lights to drive the car on public roads. I'd see if a print shop could make me the police logos as giant refrigerator magnet type things and just stick them on at shows and otherwise on private property.
State of Illinois- No lights or siren, nothing on the car that says the word Police. This comes from a guy that had a Bluesmoblie for 3 years.
A few dweebs here have a few older mopat pig wagons, with the sheriff decals on them and all. They throw OUT OF SERVICE magnets across the doors when driving to and from the car shows, dont know how often they get driven otherwise. They have the lights on top too, with blue lenses
had a cop give me some **** once for having a sieren on my panhead,,but i was bein a fool drivin around with it blastin..On bikes the faster you go the louder they get..
Hard to find an early pic of a 61 Chevy Police car! most are Mopar or Ford. Barney Fife sez "Don't forget the web for all your police car accessories!" 61 Impala. (model) 1961 6 cyl motor! The 60-1/2 car got the 409!
I recently bought this book, it's pretty nice! Lots of good info! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/15...103-0848191-7605444?n=507846&s=books&v=glance
Yep this is correct for Illinois. But the funny thing is, my cousin has a 56 Chevy 4dr black and white with the red gumball on top, and a gold star on the door. He drives it all over the place and never has been h***led once....except by me of course Actually you can have the lights, but they must be covered when on the road. The siren is permissable too, but cannot be used while on the road.
Hi ya Jesse, how are you and Cammie Lou these days? Below is a link to a picture of my '48 Fordor in it's police guise on Mart's website. The white panels and the Flathead County ensignia are plastic magnetic sheeting. The red gumball is also magnetic with a wire runnung to a 12v battery inside the car. The markings hold fast at any speed (except when it rains), but the gumball is only good to about 30mph. Also worth noting that magnetic sheeting does not stick to bondo. www.flatheadv8.freeserve.co.uk/martsframes.htm Select "Rides", select "Archive 2", scroll down to the 6th group of pictures. I've seen police cars out on the road being driven by mechanics with cloth covers over the lights that said "Out Of Service". My guess is that you could permanently affix a blue or red light to the car as long as you have it covered like that when you drive on a public roadway. As for the siren, just don't turn it on on a public roadway.
